About this audiobook
Do you ever wonder what is happening inside your brain when you feel anxious, panicked, and worried? In Rewire Your Anxious Brain, psychologist Catherine Pittman and author Elizabeth Karle offer a unique, evidence-based solution to overcoming anxiety, based in cutting-edge neuroscience and research.
In this audiobook you will learn how the amygdala and cortex (both important parts of the brain) are essential players in the neuropsychology of anxiety. The amygdala acts as a primal response, and oftentimes, when this part of the brain processes fear, you may not even understand why you are afraid. By comparison the cortex is the center of worry - that is, obsessing, ruminating, and dwelling on things that may or may not happen.
Pittman and Karle offer simple, specific examples of how to manage fear by tapping in to both of these pathways in the brain. As you listen, you'll gain a greater understanding of how anxiety is created in the brain, and as a result you will feel empowered and motivated to overcome it.
The brain is a powerful tool, and the more you work to change the way you respond to fear, the more resilient you will become. Using the practical self-assessments and proven-effective techniques in this book, you will learn to literally "rewire" the brain processes that lie at the root of your fears.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5The fact that snake oil like this is actually written and prescribed by real doctors in the 21st century should be surprising to me but sadly it isn't as I have experience dealing with so called "mental health" "professionals" and not a single one of them over the years of misery they deliberately put me through had conduct that was redeemable in even the slightest capacity ( I must add that their conduct broke both the Hippocratic oath's and malpractice laws sections regarding never inflicting unnecessary suffering on a patient). TLDR: When someone tells you how to rewire your brain assume they are referring to causing brain damage by drinking bleach and politely decline their offer of a $300/hr consultation fee.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent, worth to publish it in French, too

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent book. It helped to explain some of the feelings I've been having and presented many useful techniques to help me to manage my anxiety (from C-PTSD) and give hope that I can eventually rewire my brain to reduce or eliminate the incidents I am experiencing.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5My favourite part was knowing how does anxiety originate and why it is hard wired into our system. The distinction between amygdala and cortex based anxiety was very useful to know. Also I found the chapters 19-20 very useful especially learning about mindfulness. This book was very helpful in overcoming anxiety to a certain extent.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It’s a great book, first view chapters is painful because they will talk about anxiety, how it happened, causes, symptoms and how the brain reacts. But hang in there, after chapter 5 you will feel better because you learned everything about anxiety and for the rest of book they will talk about how to deal with it.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Simplistic approach for anyone who is unaware of what causes anxiety and how to change or monitor the activity within the old grey matter. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book, and totally recommend for those looking to change their approach to anxiety and worry.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The author has included much research on the brain and its function in anxiety. However, as a person suffering from anxiety, it isn't necessary for me to know the anatomy and functions to get over my anxiety.
I think the book is great for a technical, anatomical look at anxiety. The premise of how 'fight or flight' affects the brain is used repeatedly in the argument of why we are triggered to respond with fear and anxiety. In my experience, this theory regardless of how long it is have been in use (just proves that people don't examine what they are taught) is totally incorrect and an extremely simplified theory of how humans react when anxiety and fear are triggered. It is really time to stop using 'fight or flight' dualistic theory when humans are more complex than this doctrine provides.4 people found this helpful
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Reads scientific. 3.8 stars because it does not help achieve calm, but it gives a high level explanation of where in the brain anxiety and worries come from. It also poses some questions which, listening to the audiobook I did not bother to stop and answer
