Master storyteller Stephen King presents the classic #1 New York Times bestseller—now a major motion picture!

Andy McGee and Vicky Tomlinson were once college students looking to make some extra cash, volunteering as test subjects for an experiment orchestrated by the clandestine government organization known as The Shop. But the outcome unlocked exceptional latent psychic talents for the two of them—manifesting in even more terrifying ways when they fell in love and had a child. Their daughter, Charlie, has been gifted with the most extraordinary and uncontrollable power ever seen—pyrokinesis, the ability to create fire with her mind. Now the merciless agents of The Shop are in hot pursuit to apprehend this unexpected genetic anomaly for their own diabolical ends by any means necessary...including violent actions that may well ignite the entire world around them as Charlie retaliates with a fury of her own...

Classic Stephen King story. Gripping and unpredictable. One of his more underrated ones.

Almost shut it off on account of the Narrator, but stuck with it, and it was worth it. I’ve read the book before, years ago, and was looking for a second-go.

Not considered among Kings best works, but a really great book in my opinion. I loved the characters, even if some of their actions might feel implausible at times, it was never distracting for me. The descriptions of Charlie and Andy’s powers, and their effects are chilling.

It’s worth noting that this book is certainly a product of its time period, and bearing that in mind, some incredulous elements feel a bit more reasonable.

    Highly recommended.

A fantastic story in his early years’ style. It took me a bit to get into it, but once it got rolling I couldn’t stand to stop listening.

This was the first Stephen King novel I read, way back in the late 70s. Listening to it was entertaining, but as a long-time King fan, also showed me, a college English teacher, how much King has grown as a writer. He's an American treasure surpassing Poe (only popular in France back in the day) and Lovecraft.

While it's not my most favorite King book, not by a long shot, it's still a decent read.

Great narration and a disturbing but hopeful story, well though out and written. Loved it.

Still a pretty good book, even after all these years. Aside from being an interesting story with engaging characters, it is also a sort of time capsule, holding onto a piece of the late 20th century and serving as a poignant reminder of the good AND the bad things we left behind when we crossed the invisible threshold of the information age. I do have one nitpick - the narrator is a capable reader with a pleasant enough voice, but I wish he had put more effort into creating distinct voices for different characters.

    Very exhausting to begin with!

I actually felt pretty much annoyed it should have more what he wrote. It felt repetitive too many times!

I don’t understand how this book is Horror based I can go back and see somethings that would be scary in the story and understand but I enjoyed reading Firestarter none the less, it’s an Interesting Book and Quite Fire Literally ? Anyways it’s one of my favorites since I can relate to it in a certain way which is why even tho I don’t understand, I give this book a 5 Stars and Recommend to anyone who loves Thrillers

This was a good read. The narrator did a wonderful job with the characters and it had a fun adventure, almost spy premise with fantasy aspects. I enjoyed it.

it was okay. one thing I really didn't like about this book was the massive amounts of us less information that was really not pertinent to the base of the storyline. overall okay tho, I wish they would have went more into detail about the girl and after and before. can't wait to watch the movie.
