About this audiobook
Captivating and evocative, Letter from Istanbul will take you on an unforgettable journey from idyllic Connecticut to exotic Istanbul to war-torn Berlin then back to the present day.
When award-winning film maker Justine Nolan returns to her beautiful childhood home, she is intrigued by an envelope she finds in her absent mother’s post. But the letter inside contains a shocking revelation. If genuine it will change everything she believes about her family’s recent history, her mother and her adored grandmother, Gabriele.
With the support of her beloved twin brother, Richard, Justine resolves to uncover the truth. To do so she must travel to Istanbul – the teeming, beguiling city on the cusp of East and West. It is a place which holds its own secrets, leading her to a fascinating man who appears to know more than he is prepared to disclose.
Yet even when her quest succeeds, Justine is faced with a further mystery: Gabriele’s background is not what it seems. Justine is given a book of memories in which the real story unfolds, taking her back to the darkest days of European history, with its suffering and astonishing acts of bravery. At the heart of it lie the final facts of Gabriele’s identity – and her own.
The letter from a stranger has brought her not only to the truth about her family but also a chance to heal the wounds of past betrayals, to embrace a new love and new life.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great book about prejudice, evil and some WWII history.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I like stories of World War II survivors. This was written differently and it was an interesting way to tell a story.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I was desperate and could not find a thing to read. When I think of her first couple of books and then read this it makes me sad - people should get better not worse. The best part of the story was not solved. Flat boring people. Reading novels at the moment I am amazed at how many Germans objected to the war - this is pure fantasy - not even fiction
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I love this author's books. I couldn't put this book down. The time period, mainly WW II, is one of my favorite periods to read about.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is another excellent book by Barbara Taylor Bradford. The story is of Justine and her quest to find her grandmother, Gabriele. Justine and her twin, Richard, have been told that their grandmother was killed in a plane crash 10 years ago, but recently Justine comes into possession of a letter telling that their grandmother is most definitely alive. Justine must locate her and then come to terms with the estrangement caused by the twin's own mother. There are many secrets to be revealed and to keep the reader turning the page. I highly recommend this book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Reviewed by: LisaBook provided by:Get Red PRReview originally posted at Romancing the BookWhile enjoying the weekend at her family’s Connecticut home, Indian Ridge, Justine Nolan opens a letter that will change her life and those around her. She learns that her grandmother is alive and did not perish in a plane crash. For the past ten years Justine and her twin brother Richard have grieved the loss of their beloved grandmother Gabrielle. Their mother Deborah purposely had estranged herself and her children from her mother’s life. The twins agree that they must search for their grandmother immediately and Justine leaves for Istanbul to begin the most important journey of her life.Letter from a Stranger is a story about loves lost, found and the bonds that hold a family together through the darkest times. The relationship between Justine and her grandmother is touching and emotional. The fact that Justine’s own mother was so distant when she was growing up makes her reunion with Gabri so much sweeter. Finding her grandmother allows Justine to open her heart to find love with a mysterious handsome man. The secondary characters are engaging and interesting. The back-story of Anita Lowe and her friendship with Gabri is fascinating and leaves the reader wanting to learn more about her.The most moving part of the story details Gabri’s childhood growing up in Germany during World War II. The description of Germany and Europe during those years was riveting and horrifying. The images conjured with the vivid description of Istanbul are beautiful. The reader can easily picture sitting in a beautiful garden having afternoon tea or shopping in one of the markets. Barbara Taylor Bradford’s Letters from a Stranger is an intriguing story full of romance, secrets, mystery and drama. The book is a slow paced enjoyable read. Grab a cup of tea, a piece of baklava, relax and get lost in Justine’s quest for truth and the magic of Istanbul.
