Here’s the low-down on Ruby Redfort: she’s a genius code-cracker, a daring detective, and a gadget-laden special agent who just happens to be a thirteen-year-old girl. She and her slick side-kick butler, Hitch, foil crimes and get into loads of scrapes with evil villains, but they’re always ice-cool in a crisis.
In LOOK INTO MY EYES, we go right back to Ruby’s beginnings as an agent. When an anonymous caller sets Ruby a challenge, it’s not long before she finds her way into the HQ of the most secret of secret agencies – SPECTRUM. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5An enjoyable read, made me reach for the second book when I finished 'Look Into My Eyes'
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best spy books ever.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Well, my eleven year old daughter LOVES these books, and she really wanted me to read the first one. So I did. And it was okay, sort of a James Bond type of story, but with a young girl as the spy. Still gadgets and spies and bad guys! And an agency named Spectrum, sort of like S.P.E.C.T.R.E. in the Bond world. I found the story a bit boring, but it does ramp up at the end. And, as a father, I wasn't a big fan of the fact that Ruby's parents are so dumb. But I guess that's a part of why my daughter liked this - the parents are clueless, the girl's a code breaker, and the adventures are thrilling! I just hope she doesn't insist that I read book #2!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5children's fiction; 13-y.o. girl spies. Satisfactory (but not outstanding) girl spy story for 5th-6th grades from renowned author Lauren Child (Charlie and Lola, Clarice Bean). Young tweens and almost-tweens can look forward to reading more in this series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5In Lauren Child's first series Clarice Bean loves Ruby Redfort. Now Lauren Child has made a series about Ruby Redfort! The first book in the Ruby Redfort series is about a teenage detective named Ruby Redfort. With her butler Hitch and the agents from spectrum she must fill in as code breaker when the previous code breaker mysteriously dies. But when Ruby has to step in to save the day,she must face a bunch of sinister criminals! In this book filled with codes, crime, and espionage Ruby must lean to keep her lips zipped and not worry about missing Crazy Cops ( her favorite tv show!) This is my daughter's favorite book, she is counting the days until the next one comes out! She says that the story is very funny and realistic.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sassy, smart and persistent, Ruby Redfort is a girl who doesn't give up when it comes to crime.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Move over, Encyclopedia Brown, there's a young lady in town! Ruby Redfort is a snarky, smart-aleck tough cookie with hapless parents and a habit of getting in trouble. A Flavia de Luce character for the younger crowd, with just enough danger, cool gadgetry and sass to keep things interesting. "Ruby was feeling steadily more and more horrible. She would have to actually go over and clean Mrs. Beesman's yard now. She was sure to go to hell otherwise." I'd recommend this to my 5th-6th grade readers.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The whole family enjoyed listening to this book, even the adults.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love this book so much that I am going to listen to is again!!! So much action and adventure!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a great book. It is exciting, funny and thrilling aimed at children aged 8-14, and it has features of things that go on in a normal girls life as well as action, adventure and comedy. Strongly recommend.
