About this audiobook
Meet the man who makes the mission of learning any language possible!
The all-you-need guide to learning a language.
Language hacker Benny Lewis shows how anyone anywhere can learn any language without leaving their home, using a simple toolkit and by harnessing the power of the Internet.
Benny definitely wasn’t born with the ‘language gene’. After graduating in electronic engineering in his native Ireland he spent six months in Spain struggling to learn Spanish. This frustrating experience fuelled his determination to take a different approach to learning foreign languages.
Today he speaks over ten languages including Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, French, German, Portuguese, and Hungarian. He has also learnt Japanese in Spain. This typifies one of his ‘3-month challenges’ where he targets a new language and proceeds to become fluent in it within just three months. He charts his progress on his blog, proving that his techniques allow anyone to learn a language from anywhere.
Benny’s blog, also called Fluent in 3 Months, is the largest language learning blog in the world.
The key principles of Benny’s method:
- Speak from day one: find mother-tongue speaking partners online. Don’t be self-conscious – keep the flow going!
- Change your mindset: ditch the excuses, you can do it!
- Stay focused and determined: even if you don’t have much time, never forget the goal you’ve set yourself and work at it.
- Learning a language doesn’t need to be expensive: there is a wealth of free resources out there, if you know where to find them
- Reap the rewards! Learning a new language is not an end in itself, but a means to meeting new people and discovering new cultures. Curiosity will fuel your determination.
Benny Lewis
Benny Lewis would not describe himself as a linguist—in fact, he was distinctly mediocre at languages at school. But now, ten years on, he has learned to speak over a dozen languages, has travelled the world, and has countless friends in many different countries. How? His success is due to a change in mindset and approach—a process he has shared successfully with thousands who have discovered how to start speaking from day one. Benny's goal is to impart his insights so that everyone can see how knowing other languages can change your life.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Boring book, it felt like the author spent most of the time promoting his website.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As someone that is trying to learn a 3rd language for years (19), I found that Benny had good tips. I checked out a few sites mentioned in his book and got a clear picture to go about. It gave me hope again, that maybe I can still master those languages that I really love.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Did not find it helpful at all, he just promotes his products and says obvious things
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's a lovely book, it did help a lot on mindset and goals, which I believe many will find it beneficial
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Packed with practical actions to take in learning a language quickly and well. Very clear explanations of why these actions are effective. I look forward to putting these "to the test" in learning Chinese over the 4 months period April - July.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5amazing book! It really helped me constantly improve my French, especially the pronunciation. Highly recommend this audio book to anyone looking to learn or improve on their French.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5There are some helpful tips in this book and it is a quick read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Well, yes, you could be fluent in three months if need be, and you could immerse yourself completely in an environment speaking your target language, but the title is a bit of a hyperbole. Nonetheless, Lewis has a lot of really good ideas for increasing exposure to your target language and inspires a passion for learning it.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I got this at the library because I wondered if it contained any suggestions that I haven't already picked up in years of learning languages. The answer is, unfortunately, no. It wasn't horrible, but I'm glad I didn't pay for it. I don't think there's much new information here, and it all boils down to this: speak the language as much as possible as early as possible. I didn't need this book to tell me that.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not a huge amount in here beyond what's already on the blog, and a bit underwhelming as a result. Still - all the lessons are valid and you can't fault the approach.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A lot of great tips and interesting insights into learning new language.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I read Benny Lewis' book "Fluent in 3 Months" with one thing in mind - kick-starting my language learning into high gear and he has succeeded in doing that.I am not new to language learning. Born in Canada, I took French in school right through high school and several years ago I decided, as a challenge, to learn Japanese. I have found that my level in these languages has not budged - mainly through lack of effort on my part.Benny shows in his book many ways to involve yourself in language in order to bring it to the next level. For example, he recommends that you get tested when you get to a reasonable level. I didn't bother with Japanese - I know I am somewhere between an A1 and an A2. However, I did get tested in French and was not surprised to find I was rated a B2. So I have taken Benny's advice and I am finding ways to bring these languages into my day. With Japanese, I am using flash cards to memorize the kanji and I am reading basic texts. For my French, he advises when you get to the higher levels it is time to get into gear with grammar. I purchased a good verb book and an advanced grammar text. I am also translating a book I know well ("Little Women") and using an app with French exercises. I can already notice the difference.Benny's book has a lot to offer whether you have never studied a language before or, like me, just need some advice on how to take it to the next level. I found this book interesting and I enjoyed Benny's conversational tone. Recommended for any language learner.
