Reviews for Love, Splat

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I'm a huge fan of Splat, the Cat, mainly because Splat is a cat! In this one, Splat wants to give a Valentine to Kitten but is a little intimidated especially when another cat vows his love for Kitten too. It's a cute story!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I picked this one because I love alliteration. How can I pass up Splat the Cat? It is an adorable story of Splat's love for Kitten. The lesson of following your heart cannot begin too soon. I like that Kitten picks the valentine from the heart vs the valentine super big fancy. The art work is very light on the background, so the expressions on the characters faces stand out wonderfully. The emotion and story line are highlighted, and it makes the book great.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Highly Recommended Splat the Cat is back with a Valentine themed book. Splat is putting a lot of effort into getting ready for school. He was very excited to go to school because it was Valentine’s Day and he made a special Valentine for Kitten. Splat was not really sure that Kitten liked him as much as he liked her. She “pulled his ears and poked his belly, tied his tail and called him smelly. Then she’d run away.” Splat wasn’t really sure why Kitten did that, but it made him really self conscious. On his way to school Splat ran into Kitten and was embarrassed. Everyone traded Valentine’s at school and then Spike interfered with Splat’s plan. Spike said he liked Kitten more than Splat. Splat thought Spike was right so he threw his Valentine’s card away. Fortunately, Kitten saw it in the trash can and opened it. Then she found Splat and gave him a Valentine’s Day card she made. Turns out Kitten likes Splat as much as he likes her. This book is sure to please kids because of the giant, glitter heart on the cover. The illustrations are striking because most of the cats are in black and white, then objects tend to be in color. It makes certain elements really stand out on the page. The story has a cute ending and it’s just a heart warming Valentine’s Day story. The emotions the cats are experiencing are in their facial expressions and some are laugh out loud funny. This book makes for a good Valentine’s Day read aloud to a group of Kindergarten or first grade students. It would be a popular book for a public or school library. Splat’s name makes children giggle. It would be a good addition to a classroom guided reading set. Some kids would like to take an AR quiz after reading this story.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Oddly enough, given the fact that I was indifferent to Rob Scotton's first picture-book devoted to the adventures of Splat the Cat, I found Love, Splat quite endearing. Hoping to communicate his affections to Kitten, a "certain cat" with snowy white fur and pea-green eyes, Splat has created a special valentine. Will it win the mischievous minx over? Or will Splat's rival, Spike, win her paw?Attentive readers will probably have guessed the ending ahead of time, given Kitten's penchant for poking Splat, and tying his tail in knots, but it is still fun watching these two kitties find first love. Scotton, whose illustrations in Splat the Cat struck me as very uniform, here seems to invest his character with a little more variety of expression. I'm glad, all in all, that I gave this second Splat book a chance. It would make a lovely selection for a Valentine's Day story-hour.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Splat is back and he wants to make a very special valentine for his crush. What a cute story for preschoolers or the young school age crowd who are faced with first loves and first Valentine's Day cards! For me, the illustrations are just as important as the words, and Scotton nails the adorably goofy and loveable cat with sweet Splat. Also check out "Splat the Cat" and "Russell the Sheep" by the same author.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I absolutely adore Splat. If you haven't read SPLAT THE CAT, I highly recommend doing so, even though you don't have to do it before enjoying LOVE, SPLAT. It about Splat the cat who is determined that today will be perfect. After all, it's Valentine's Day, and he's got a certain someone on his mind - a snowy white cat, with pea green eyes, named Kitten. But when he runs into Kitten on the way to school, he's too nervous to give her the card. And even when Valentines are exchanged during class, the funny feeling in his stomach won't let him give Kitten his special made card. And at recess, when Spike informs Splat that he likes kitten, too, Splat gives up; however, is surprised to find that kitten likes him too.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The storyline is adorable and the pictures are "squee." What's the deal with the mouse, though? Is Seymour an invisible friend?
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Poor Splat, he is in love, but the object of his love doesn't know it. And, he has competition. Even so, he gives her a valentine. Very cute story and well illustrated.
