About this audiobook

A hilarious thriller that pits a CIA-trained assassin against a cross-dressing Mafioso.

Henry and his wife Frances have gone bamboo—living an idyllic, tequila-drenched life as two of the Caribbean’s most charming expatriates (and professional assassins). But when Charlie “Wagons” Iannello, a powerful capo with a heart of gold, is relocated to the island under the Federal Witness Protection Program, Henry and Frances’s plan suddenly, dangerously falls apart. Now, despite the fact that Henry once tried to kill Charlie, the two join forces against the transvestite mob boss looking to ace Charlie, and the scene is set for an unpredictable tale of low life and high comedy.

Entertaining, but choppier and less focused than his other novel or short stories.

Beautifully read. The tension builds really well- people decide they need to have sex in the most bizarre circumstances. This is a love story, a friendship story and there is a lot of sadness too.

A book where nothing happens to a cast of characters that are difficult to give two shits about.

I am working my way to reading everything Mr. Bourdain has written. This book is about the mob. It's a great book and a cool story. I really liked the characters and the shootout scene towards the end. Only Bourdain can make it bloody good. And of course, I like how he incorporates cooking terms throughout the book.

Remember that Bourdain is a reasonably famous chef at a well known New York restaurant. Food certainly is important to him, and one of the characters, Mickey, in this second of his mob-oriented novels, is the chef to a mobster hiding under the witness protection plan in a French island in the Caribbean. Henry, a hit man, had been hired by Jimmie several years before to take out Donnie, a Mafia chieftain. Unfortunately, Donnie had only been badly wounded, had survived the shooting, and was now, several years later, singing to the feds. He is being hidden on the same island where Henry and Frances have taken up an idyllic retirement. Donnie' arrival on the island changes all the dynamics, and Henry, knowing that Donnie probably knows that Henry had been the one hired to shoot him, decides to make some peace overtures. If you like ganster-type books, you' enjoy this one, although I understand that [book:Bone in the Throat] should be read first.
