About this audiobook

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the author of Star Wars: Lost Stars comes a thrilling novel set in the years before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

WITNESS THE BIRTH OF THE RESISTANCE

When the Rebellion defeated the Empire in the skies above Endor, Leia Organa believed it was the beginning to a lasting peace. But after decades of vicious infighting and partisan gridlock in the New Republic Senate, that hope seems like a distant memory.

Now a respected senator, Leia must grapple with the dangers that threaten to cripple the fledgling democracy-from both within and without. Underworld kingpins, treacherous politicians, and Imperial loyalists are sowing chaos in the galaxy. Desperate to take action, senators are calling for the election of a First Senator. It is their hope that this influential post will bring strong leadership to a divided galaxy.

As the daughter of Darth Vader, Leia faces with distrust the prospect of any one person holding such a powerful position-even when supporters suggest Leia herself for the job. But a new enemy may make this path Leia's only option. For at the edges of the galaxy, a mysterious threat is growing. . . .

Claudia Gray is the pseudonym of New Orleans-based writer Amy Vincent, the author of the New York Times bestselling Evernight series. She has worked as a lawyer, a journalist, a disc jockey, and an extremely poor waitress. Her grandparents' copy of Mysteries of the Unexplained is probably the genesis of her fascination with most things mysterious and/or inexplicable.

Solid book. Not great, but good. An interesting story to give some hints at how the New Order and how they could have sprung themselves on the New Republic

Awesome best Star Wars book I've read. Had problems with the app skipping ahead until I got the update.

Totally recontextualizes my gripes about the new trilogy. Amazing read!

Claudia Gray is a storytelling genius. I want her to help pen new stories (or adapt existing ones) for the big and small screens.

The audiobook itself was well done as usual. The only slightly off putting part is Han’s voice, but it’s pretty tough to impersonate Harrison Ford’s voice with a female narrator. Highly, highly recommended.

A must read for Star Wars fans. One of the best companions to The Force Awakens.

A very good story. A political thriller with a Star Wars coating. Works out pretty well, if you ask me. The only minor complaint I can give regards the voice of the reader. Whenever she did Han or C3PO's dialog, it sounded out of place and took me out of the story. Her as Leia and any other character was great. Since Leia was the main protagonist of the story, it more than makes up for the Han and C3PO voices (who aren't in the story that much). A great story, give it a listen.

I wish I would have read this before seeing the Force Awakens. So many gaps filled in!

Enjoyed it thoroughly. Perfect narration. The right amount of sound effects. Excellent plot and political intrigue with a dash of action. Really well done Star Wars canon.

I was expecting this to be filled with boring political stuff, but it surprised me with being packed with action, intrigue, and moderate plot twists. This was one of the more enjoyable new canon novels. It was nice to have some foreshadowing to events in The Force Awakens without spoiling anything at all. Extra bonus, we get to go inside the mind of Leia. She carries the story, but she's worth it.

A great story and a phenominal Star Wars book. One more gap bridged between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens
