The anger of Kate dragged on way too long in the middle of the book. I almost didn’t finish it. So hard to imagine a man staying patient for that long.

This book was very good...the plot was just enough of a "plot" to interest me and keep me engaged with the right amount of romance. I thought the heroine clever, but a bit silly, which actually added to her charm. I also liked the hero, however, he solved the mystery a bit too easily. I thought the book took an interesting look at rape, though frankly I didn't like the hero's involvement in that at all and thought it didn't treat the subject with the seriousness it deserved. However, overall, I had a great time with this novel. It was the perfect book to listen to when painting a shed... :)

This book needs a Trigger warning for victims of sexual violence. The book was great for about half. Then the bomb drops that the central plot point is repressed childhood trauma from a childhood gang rape that was then followed up with an abduction/spousal rape. Then we are supposed to believe the characters magically overcome this to be deliriously happy in less than a chapter. I read regencies for light and fluffy and have a happy ending but I simply can’t accept that this relationship was actually salvageable.
