About this audiobook
Since its release in 1949, The Hero with a Thousand Faces has influenced millions of readers by combining the insights of modern psychology with Joseph Campbell's revolutionary understanding of comparative mythology. In this book, Campbell outlines the Hero's Journey, a universal motif of adventure and transformation that runs through virtually all of the world's mythic traditions. He also explores the Cosmogonic Cycle, the mythic pattern of world creation and destruction.
As relevant today as when it was first published, The Hero with a Thousand Faces continues to find new audiences in fields ranging from religion and anthropology to literature and film studies. The book has also profoundly influenced creative artists-including authors, songwriters, game designers, and filmmakers-and continues to inspire all those interested in the inherent human need to tell stories.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great recording, eases between analysis and example with ease. One of the readers has a speaking style that drops volume at the end of his sentences, so prepare accordingly.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just absolutely outstanding. Throughout my life, my humanities classes at Harvard in the 80s, and now my daughters classes in her high school, I’ve come across references to this work and I finally listen to it. What a book! There are so few authors that I can pull absolutely everything together, and in one listen or read, you can have the benefit in a rather short time of having read 1000 books and getting their wisdom. Joseph Campbell really pulls together the wisdom of mankind, god, our spirit, and the universe. Just wow! A must read or a must listen. Don’t miss it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I see why it is considered a classic. Should be required reading in schools. I will definitely be purchasing the hardcover.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Honestly, one the best comprehensive books on mythology, religion, and human psyche and the connection between all three. I purchased the hard copy for my own collection. I will be a Joseph Campbell fan for life.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Fascinating in parts but looooong. Gets very dry in places - perfect for those long bus rides where you want to learn things but also really don't mind a snooze here and there and everywhere.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Really well read, but couldn’t make up for extremely boring and dated content.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Waiting for the penny to drop is an agonising experience. No useful take away or lesson after 10+ hrs. Just basic folklore. No disrespect to the fables and legends of old - but we've heard it all before a thousand times and with better pictures. Huge waste of time.
