THE FINAL SEVEN

New Orleans Detective Micki Dee Dare is a seasoned, no-nonsense cop. She doesn't need a partner, especially not Zach “Hollywood” Harris, an irreverent charmer, fresh out of an experimental FBI program. And her assignment—keep him alive while he fights crime using the special skills he brings to the table—is not what she signed up for. But the die has been cast and there's nothing she can do about it.

Micki soon realizes there's more to her partner than meets the eye—and more at stake than catching bad guys and closing cases. There’s a new kind of evil at work the Crescent City, more cunning, more powerful than any she’s ever encountered. And she and Zach may be the only ones who can stop it.

As another coed goes missing and the darkness closes in, Micki must face a terrifying truth: this time she might not make it. This time the evil they’re facing might destroy them all.…

Full of surprise twists and unexpected turns, The Final Seven is a heart-pounding thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

Erica Spindler

No matter how innocent the story being relayed to me is, I can twist it into something pretty damn frightening. I've learned the real trick is not sharing these versions with those relaying the story. It tends to make people avoid me.” ~ Erica Spindler A New York Times and International bestselling author, Erica Spindler's skill for crafting engrossing plots and compelling characters has earned both critical praise and legions of fans. Published in 25 countries, her stories have been lauded as “thrill-packed page turners, white- knuckle rides and edge-of-your-seat whodunits.” Raised in Rockford, Illinois, Erica had planned on being an artist, earning a BFA from Delta State University and an MFA from the University of New Orleans in the visual arts. In June of 1982, in bed with a cold, she picked up a romance novel for relief from daytime television. She was immediately hooked, and soon decided to try to write one herself. She leaped from romance to suspense in 1996 with her novel Forbidden Fruit, and found her true calling. Her novel Bone Cold won the prestigious Daphne du Maurier Award for excellence. A Romance Writers of America Honor Roll member, she received a Kiss of Death Award for her novels Forbidden Fruit and Dead Run and was a three-time RITA® Award finalist.  Publishers Weekly awarded the audio version of her novel Shocking Pink a Listen Up Award, naming it one of the best audio mystery books of 1998. Erica lives just outside New Orleans, Louisiana, with her husband and two sons and is busy at work on her next thriller.

Detective Micki Dare has been assigned a new partner. Zach Harris is special and has certain gifts. He is part of the sixers program and has been assigned to partner Micki. Young girls have gone missing on their birthdays and Micki and Zach have to find them and stop others being taken. This book is not what I'm used to when I pick up an Erica Spindler novel. Normally the book would be a romantic suspense with a likeable heroine and a tasty hero with a crime to solve. This outing has the heroine and hero but has a supernatural theme through the story.I like supernatural books but I don't think that its Ms Spindler forte. The story was ok and its certainly setting the scene for a series. I personally just didn't gel with the book. Nothing really in this book grabbed me and has made me want to read the next installment. I would have enjoyed this book more if the story didnt swing towards the supernatural. At first Micki snd Zach were running around like Mulder and Scully then I felt I was waiting for Sam and Dean Winchester to appear. This wasn't a strong book from ES and I have loved many of her previous novels. I wont stop reading her books but perhaps wont be in a rush to enter her twilight zone.

I love the kind of supernatural thriller that makes you believe it could happen, and Erica Spindler delivers that here in a spectacular way. First, this book has Spindler's trademark twists and turns. The action kept me involved and on edge from beginning to end.The characters propel the story, so that I cared what happened to all of them. Some are normal humans, others are gifted, and all are complex people. Then we have the good versus evil aspect, which might sound trite and overdone but definitely is not. We do live in a world of light and dark, good and evil, and that reality makes this story all the more compelling. Spindler uses this platform to launch a world of powerful possibilities.Yes, this book contains supernatural elements, so if you live in a black and white world, this book probably isn't for you. But if you're willing to stretch the limits of what you can see and ask, "What if?", then this book is guaranteed to keep you turning pages. I can't wait for book #2 in this series!*I was provided with an advance review copy by the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review.*

This isn't the usual stuff from this author - yes there's a police department featuring Mick and her new, very handsome partner Zach, who has some unusual talents. They are tasked to find some missing girls in New Orleans but this time there is no run of the mill villain but a supernatural one to contend with. I liked the mix of the hard, seen it all before Mick and her softer sidekick, the normal police work combined with darker forces and secrets. It was pacey and gripping - a hit with me! Looking forward to the next book in this series.
