About this audiobook
A dying man, Hank Peyton, tells his son Jerry Peyton that, after a lifetime of evil deeds, his only gift to his son will be his extremely valuable gun called The Voice of La Paloma. When Jerry is wrongfully accused of horse thievery, a cunning sheriff blackmails Jerry into stealing the gun from his father in exchange for a clean slate, even though the sheriff has already found the real horse thief.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This is a collection of two Brand stories. The first is "Man From the Sky" which was first published in Western Story Magazine on June 2,1928 and the second is the title story, "Peyton", originally published as a five part serial in the November 25 to December 25 1920 issues of Western Story Magazine.Man From the Sky is the story of Paul Torridon who is being guided to Fort Kendry to join his girlfriend. One day his guide leaves camp to hunt for some food but fails to return. Paul waits for some time but then strikes out on his own although he does not know where the Fort is. He eventually stumbles on an dying Indian who he nurses back to life and who then takes Paul to his tribe's camp. There Paul is seen as a gift from the gods and kept as a prisoner. The remainder of the novella is about his escape and finding the fort and his girl and an especially surprise ending.Peyton is about the son of famous gunman Hank Peyton and their legendary gun, The Voice of La Paloma. Jerry, the son, runs into trouble when he is accused of stealing horses by a posse made up vigilantes. Eventually cleared of the crime before being hung and then tricked into finding the missing La Voice of Paloma by a sheriff with an agenda, Peyton ends up on a Caribbean island facing a man who had earlier promised to kill him the next time they met.
