About this audiobook
Choose the one guy you can’t have . . .
As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas—the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she’s in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.
Fall for him—hard . . .
Pub owner Finn O’Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don’t ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.
And then tell him the truth.
Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it’s what she wishes for at the historic fountain that’s supposed to grant her heart’s desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story—because Pru’s been keeping a secret that could change everything. . . .

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Sweet, but a little too much goody-goody and failure to use their words.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Sweet story but not the author's best (IMHO). I found the resolution a little too quick and easy compared to the drawn-out drama of the Lie By Omission. Great characters as always!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Sweet Little Lies opens a new series for Jill Shalvis, switching from the mountains to San Francisco. Using the backdrop of this iconic city, she creates a tight-knit community for her quirky characters and provides everything you’d expect, and more.
I received an Advance Reading Copy of this book.
Pru is a selfless do-gooder, trying to erase the sins of her parents, whom she loved dearly, but who wreaked havoc when they died. Among those she seeks to make anonymous amends to is Finn O’Riley, but there’s something more to Finn. As self-appointed “Fun Whisperer,” she wants to erase the heartache of his past and wishes for a happily ever after for him. What she doesn’t count on is wanting to share it with him.
Filled with heart, humor and characters you want to be best friends with. Finn will make you swoon and Pru will tug at your heartstrings. This book made me laugh and made me cry. With each book Ms. Shalvis writes, she perfects the confusion of sex versus love, and in this book, she demonstrates the thoughtfulness and caring that go with the latter. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Honesty is a big important point in a relationship for me and this chick couldn't do it.The story was good the characters were great except the female MC Pru. What a soggy piece of bread she was. Wishy washy, I'll do tomorrow what I should do today type. She played with other people's lives, put herself in someones life in a dishonest way and just kept making excuses not to be upfront and honest. Sure she was giving, and kind and gave up nearly everything to make up for her parents crime. But when it came to telling one man, one thing, she got all selfish ? Pffiiitt ! She blamed on her needy body. Whatever. She killed a star on the rating for me.The rest of the cast were excellent varied people with quirky traits. I look forward to more from them, Jake most of all. Jake is a wheeling, hard body, with a huge thick streak of honor.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Fantastic start to the new series, full of the author's trademark humor, deep emotions that had me in tears at the end, and small town feel, even though the book is set in the city of San Francisco. This one is the story of Pru and Finn. Pru is the captain of a harbor tourist boat and loves what she does. She has recently moved into a new apartment in a building that also has an Irish pub. The pub is owned by Finn and his brother Sean and is the gathering place for their group of friends. Finn and Pru noticed each other right away, but issues from their pasts have them trying to ignore the sparks. That all ends when a dart game goes hilariously wrong.I loved Pru. She is a woman with a huge heart and an even bigger guilt complex. Years earlier her parents had been killed in a drunk driving accident that they caused. Unfortunately, they were not the only casualties. Since then, Pru has made it her mission to help those who were affected by what her parents did. She is sweet, stubborn, and more than a bit lonely, but doesn't exactly feel deserving of happiness. I loved seeing her become part of the group at O'Riley's.Finn was great. When he was twenty-one his father was killed by a drunk driver, leaving just him and his fourteen year old brother Sean. Rather than let Sean go into the foster system, Finn left college, his promising baseball future, and his fun-loving life to raise his brother. Later, they opened their pub, Finn's plan for giving himself and Sean a steady life and income. Finn has spent all his time working, finishing school and looking out for Sean, leaving himself no time for fun. He gets quite a hard time from Sean, who is just the opposite, preferring fun to serious whenever possible.I loved the relationship that developed between Finn and Pru. She never meant for anything to happen between them. Instead, she had made a wish on the local fountain that he find love and happiness, because she could see that he was all work and no play. I liked how she called herself the "fun whisperer" and told him that she was going to help him have that fun. The connection between them is immediate and hot, but both are holding back. Finn has been burned once before and is trying to protect his heart. Pru hasn't told Finn that they have a connection he's completely unaware of. In spite of those things, Pru and Finn get more involved in each other's lives. Finn is a protector and there is something about Pru that calls to that part of him. I loved seeing him take care of her when she was sick, even though she tried to push him away. Pru is a nurturer, as shown in the way she tries to take care of everyone. I loved watching her draw Finn out of his workaholic ways and get him back to living life. There were so many sweet and funny moments between them, but with that secret hanging over Pru's head, you know that it's eventually going to come out. When it did, Finn reacted just as Pru feared he would. I ached so badly for both of them, but especially for Pru. She had fallen so hard for him and the things that Finn said hurt so badly. I loved seeing Pru get unexpected support from her new friends. Finn was hurting just as badly, but his pride had taken a hit also. I loved seeing his friends point out his idiocy, with Archer's part having the biggest impact. I really enjoyed seeing Finn do his bit of groveling, especially doing it in front of all their friends.I loved meeting all their friends also. Each one has a unique personality and quirks of their own. From Eddie the homeless guy, who I suspect has more to his story, to Elle, who is a little bit scary with some of her insights and ability to get people to do what she wants, I am really looking forward to seeing what happens with them all.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Shalvis begins another series with her trademark blend of steam and humor. This one had all the elements I truly enjoy. The main characters were good people doing what they could to get along and help others. There was a sense of family. And of course, the small town with quirky people. I can't wait for the rest of this series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was such a delightful romance! There was just so much that this book did right. The characters were great, including a wonderful cast of secondary characters. The chemistry between the couple was so intense that I just couldn't enough. I loved the little pieces of humor that worked its way into the story. The story was great and felt real to me. I am so glad that I picked this one up.The characters in this story were simply amazing. I was sucked into the story right away just by Pru's character. Oh yeah, Pru's dog, Thor, may have had a small part in grabbing me right away as well. I just loved Thor. It took me a little bit longer to really get a feel for Finn but once I did, I may have swooned a bit. He was such a great match for Pru. Finn's group of friends, who quickly became Pru's group of friends only added to the appeal.I have read a lot of romances so there isn't too many plot ideas that I haven't come across during my years of reading. The "big secret that could tear the couple apart" theme is generally not one of my favorites. But you know what, it worked for me in this story. I was actually a bit nervous about how things would work out since it is a romance novel and the odds are really good that the couple would get their happily ever after in the end. It really speaks to the quality of the story that I was so invested in this fictional pair's happiness. There was a wonderful playfulness to the story. I found many sections of the book to be quite funny. The humor in the story really fit in very nicely and didn't feel forced in any way. This was just such a fun group of people that laughs would naturally occur anytime they are together. The humor was nicely balanced with tenderness between Finn and Pru. My heart melted just a bit when he worked to take care of her. Everything about this story just felt so incredibly real. The chemistry between Finn and Pru was off the charts. Personality wise they fit together perfectly but the physical heat that they shared was breathtaking. The sexy times in this book were intense but they had chemistry during every scene that they were together in the book. I even felt the heat of Finn's stare when they first shared a page.I would highly recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. Jill Shalvis is quickly becoming a go to author for me anytime that I am in the mood for a romance. I have only read a few of her books so far but I will be working on her backlist soon. I can't wait to see the next book in the Heartbreaker Bay series because I can't wait to spend more time with this group of characters.I received an advance reader edition of this book from Avon Books via Edelweiss for the purpose of providing an honest review.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Heartwarming and happy making is just what this book is! Ms. Shalvis has created characters I was drawn to, became friends with and am eager to spend more time with AND this is just what I plan to do with each new book that comes out in this series.Pru Harris captains a cruise boat that takes tours out on the water in San Francisco. She is a warm, giving, self-assured woman who wants Finn O’Riley and his brother Sean to be happy. Why she wants this is a secret that remains a secret to Finn till nearly the end of the book. Finn is very aware of Pru from the very first moment she steps into his pub. He knows her favorites without being asked and eventually makes a move that will see the two of them become friends then move on to more. The only thing that might disrupt their growing relationship is “the secret”. This was a story I started this morning and could not put down. I loved the writing, the relationship of Finn and Pru, the friendships that were so supportive and caring and the happiness this book has left me with at the end of the day. I would like to thank the author for the copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
