About this audiobook
The Gambler is a short novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky about a young tutor in the employment of a formerly wealthy Russian general.
The novella reflects Dostoevsky's own addiction to roulette, which was in more ways than one the inspiration for the book: Dostoevsky completed the novella under a strict deadline so he could pay off gambling debts.
An Author's Republic audio production.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Monotonous boring no passion. Narrator did not give the story what it deserves
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It wasn't too bad, but I expected more from this author. Apparently he wrote this book in one month to pay a gambling debt, and although it deals with plenty of gamblers, there's not much in depth insight to their addiction. The characters were stiff and uninteresting. Rich Europeans, wasting their time and throwing their money away. I probably missed a lot of the nuances and hidden criticisms of real people, but I found those portrayed clichéd and superficially drawn. There's not much by way of a plot either. Disappointing.
