    Imagine a strange, tropical place that is almost inaccessible. Time appears to have stood still there. Species of animal and plant life not seen elsewhere on Earth, except in the fossil record, inhabit the place. The lakes heave with the shapes of huge grey bulks moving under the surface. The woods are places where chittering cries move about above your head, as powerful apes move swiftly in the canopy of leaves. Then, a tree splinters nearby, and a dinosaur steps out from his hiding place... and he's eyeing YOU.

    Jurassic Park? Not quite. The Lost World was an inspiration for Jurassic Park; in fact, a character in J.P. has the same name as one of the chief characters in The Lost World. It also inspired King Kong. But this is the original! Four adventurers go off to find the place shown in a dead man's sketch book - they find a war between apes and Indians, prowling dinosaurs, a sparkly treasure hidden in the blue clay - they find the Lost World. And because of the treachery of a native guide, their means of escape is destroyed!

    Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) descendía de una noble familia irlandesa y cursó estudios de Medicina. Sin embargo, nunca ejerció, pues apenas dos años después de licenciarse en 1885 dio a luz el primero de sus relatos de suspense, Estudio en escarlata (1887). Su éxito fue tan grande e inmediato, que nuestro autor ya no dejaría de escribir. El personaje creado por él, su detective Sherlock Holmes, se hizo famosísimo y protagonizó nada menos que sesenta títulos. Entre los más conocidos se encuentran El perro de los Baskerville, El valle del terror o los relatos incluidos en su libro Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes, publicado en Gribaudo. También cultivó la ciencia ficción, la novela histórica y otros géneros. En 1900 dio a luz su libro más extenso, La guerra de los bóers, y se pronunció en favor de la contienda británica en África. Según su opinión fue esto sobre todo lo que favoreció su nombramiento como caballero de la Orden del Imperio dos años después. Había alcanzado un lugar de prestigio, con apenas cuarenta años. Poco después (1906) murió su esposa Louise Hawkins y se casó con la médium Jean Elizabeth Leckie. Este vínculo con las ciencias ocultas se acrecentó tras la desaparición de su hijo Kingsley en la Primera Guerra Mundial. Del vínculo directo con el espiritismo nació su Historia del espiritismo (1926) así como numerosas polémicas, por ejemplo, contra su amigo Harry Houdini. Fue asimismo aficionado al fútbol, al críquet y al golf, entre otras pasiones. Murió de un ataque al corazón en la ciudad de Crowborough, en donde había residido durante veintitrés años.

      to be honest i feel like i lived a new life after i read this... million times better than movies I was lost all this day while I read this one.. everyone must read this book.. this magical book.. there is no single place where I felt bore.. thrilling. i had another book as my favorite all this day but from today this is gonna be my favorite. love it author please bring us more like this

      Yes... That bad. It got the 2nd star because I like the baseline story of the extinct animals.
      Yet the misogynistic, racist and boring narrative did not age well and it was more, waaaay more that what I can tolerate.

      For me one of the best books about dinosaurs that I have ever heard since it was an inspiration for the famous movie Jurasic Park and more because it is so well set that you do not get tired of listening to this audiobook.

      I don't know if I ever read this before. I think I did when it first came out but I don't remember anything that ever happened in this book. Just that Ian Malcolm was in it. The book is a lot better than the movie (T Rex never made it to LA here!!). A little slow in the beginning but well worth it! ...more

      I thought I had already read this, but checked Goodreads and found out I hadn't! I had seen the movie (which is only loosely based on the book) and downloaded the Kindle edition, but never read it. It's an excellent sequel, and I'm glad I finally got around to reading it. Later, I'll listen to the audiobook edition, which I know is good, because it's narrated by Scott Brick, who did a brilliant job on "Jurassic Park."

      I will start my review by saying that I did not enjoy this novel nearly as much as the first book, Jurassic Park. While this was an incredibly easy and fast read, I would have preferred if Crichton had cut roughly a hundred pages of additional information that, in my opinion, did not add to the story. Other than that, wow! What an adrenaline-charging, action-packed book! Crichton sure knew how to grab his audience by the hand and take them on a roller-coaster into a whole other world—a world in which you are sure to get Lost, ha-ha!
