Imagine having the chance to exact revenge for the RP, RT (wrong place, wrong time) murder of your baby sister. Imagine standing in an deserted railroad yard with a gun pointed at the back of the killer's head. Would you shoot him? That's the decision that computer whizkid, Teddy "T-Bear" Anderson has to make after he uses his hacking skills and keen planning ability to create this opportunity. It wasn't easy either. Looking for information on the homeboyz that were responsible earned him three hard weeks in a juvenile detention facility, an ankle bracelet that confines him home unless he's going to do his 300+ community service hours with an orphan, wannabe gang member. He watches his family falling apart. His parents marriage is failing and his sibling hate him. He loses his scholarship to a prestigious computer program and a job with the National Security Administration. But he's strong enough to not care and to focus only on revenge. He can be very patient if he has to be.This is an uncomfortable book to read. Mr. Sitomer uses suspense, horror and some very scary situations involving a 12 year old boy whose best options seem to be to join the gang his cousin leads. The author uses the strong character of a young man who's willing to lose everything to bring the readers to the point where Teddy must decide. The book opens with a description of what kind of person joins a gang, how far she will go for her homeboyz and the street shooting murder of Teddy's innocent 14 year old sister. the plot moves quickly, then slowly as Teddy waits for his chance and builds to a thrilling confrontation. This novel, for older readers, is full of violence, anger and, eventually redemption, and is a powerful read. It would be a good addition to any library that serves reluctant teen readers. The novel, Homeboyz, by Alan Sitomer encompasses that revenge should never be an answer. In the beginning, Teddy Anderson seeks out for revenge against a gang known as the 0-1-0s who he believes killed and shot his little sister, Tina, but unfortunately gets busted by the cops for his revengeful actions. Throughout the middle, Teddy is ordered by the judge to do 300 hours of community service with Officer Mariana Diaz in a prevention program which involves keeping young kids out of the streets. Teddy is assigned to tutor Micah, an orphan and wannabe gangster, who he hates at first, but later learns to love Micah and treat like a little brother. By the end, Teddy completed his community service hours, and gained Micah, a little brother who helped him and his family cope with Tina's death. (304 pages read/ 304 pages).

This is very popular with students at my school. It seems fairly realistic although the language and violence of gang culture have been cleaned up. I was driven to find out what was to become of Teddy and I rooted for him even though he was very unlikable.

This novel is an example of realistic fiction, it is set in todays world Los Angeles. The characters felt very realistic and the book makes you want to know them, at least by the end of the novel. I would only recommend this book to upper middles school and high school aged students. It does contain a little vulgarity and swearing, but it doesn't go unpunished. Also there is a lot of violence, and gang/drug references. Homeboyz has a great plot, that doesn't go unnoticed. At first there is a huge conflict and many smaller ones which is the fact that gang violence is much too prevalent, and this specific family has been torn apart from it. The intrigue sucks you in with the curiosity of how the main character T-Bear is going to get his revenge and if so will he be going to jail. The resolution couldn't be better. The young boy that T-Bear helps out because of his Parole/community service is adopted by his parents, and T-Bear does nothing to get himself in jail. Last but not least the man who was responsible for T-Bear's sisters death ended up going to jail.
