      After the feast, the reckoning. I had been fortunate enough to read three or four exceptionally good books in a row and then I stumbled upon this one which brought the lucky streak to an abrupt end. To be fair, this novel is the eleventh in a sequence and i haven't read any of its predecessors, so I acknowledge that I may not be particularly qualified to judge this instalment. Sadly, based upon my experience with this episode i doubt whether I shall be making any efforts to bring myself up to speed with the earlier volumes.
