Blauw Water is a great thriller. I have noticed before that van der Vlugt knows how to describe human emotions into detail. Anything she writes could be real. She knows how to describe daily actions, ordinary people and common reactions. I admire her writing because of this. I also like the plot of this story. It is beautifully built up and never ceased to interest me.Although I like van der Vlugt's colleagues in the genre as well, she is my favourite Dutch thriller writer.

This thriller, set in the Netherlands, tells the story of a woman and her child whose home is invaded by an escaped murderer. Although the story is quite short I found it really gripping. It raises some frightening questions about what we would be willing to do to save the lives of ourselves and our children.
