Love and lies can corrupt even the purest heart...

In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, while her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will - the wall he has built around himself is crumbling.

Read the full review. The second book in The Infernal Devices series is even more gripping and wonderful than the first. This is a truly unique series that highlights the skill and finesse of Clare as a writer. While Clockwork Angel focussed more on setting up the story and introducing major characters, this book was able to focus more on character development and the unfolding of major plot elements. I finished the book in one sitting, and now I am eagerly awaiting the publication of the third book, Clockwork Princess. Romantic elements take the forefront in Clockwork Prince, and while I found Tessa's confusion heart breaking, I thought the story focussed too much on her inability to choose between Will and Jem. The mixed messages that Will sent her made it difficult for her, and when it was finally revealed why he acted that way, I was filled with sympathy for him. However, it was Jem's steadiness and dependability which endeared him to me. The characters were, again, the best element in the book for me. They developed in wonderful ways, and while they didn't always behave how I thought they should, they always stayed true to themselves. Charlotte and Henry overcame some huge barriers in this book and I was very happy for them. The most complex and interesting character is definitely Jem, but he was closely followed by Gideon and Jessamine. I loved getting to know the Lightwood brothers better, and of course, uncovering the complexity that lies under Jessie's hard exterior was fun. This was a great read, which showcases the best of the young adult genre. I urge anyone who has it already to read it as soon as possible!

This is the second book of the Infernal Devices trilogy. I am loving this series. I read the Mortal Instruments first this trilogy has been fun going back in time and reading about some of the characters who were mentioned in the other series or hinted about. The two series really tie together well. This book delved more into the characters than the first one. Revelations are unearthed and true characters come out. The action was not as violent as the first book and also no as often. I would highly recommend this trilogy along with the Mortal Instruments series.

I have listened to the whole series on audiobook so far, and this was by far my least favorite as far as the narrators. One of the narrators was hard to understand and I found myself having to re-listen to sections (I do listen to audiobooks at twice the normal speed).I was worried about not liking this one, as I could not get into the beginning. As the story continued, I loved it. I liked learning more about Will and his family and also Tessa and who/what she may be. I also enjoyed learning more about Will and Jem and their bond/friendship. The romance! I cannot decide if I am team Jem or team Will. As soon as I feel I am picking one way, something else would happen to make me routing for the other Ship! I am so torn!Ready to finish the Infernal Devices!

Very "meh," which is more of a compliment to Ms. Clare than anything else. There is a reason it's a deleted scene, and it's a credit to Ms. Clare that she recognized it wasn't worth leaving in the final draft.

    Merged review:

It's been a while since reading the first in the series, but I think I liked "Clockwork Prince" more. It had some hilarious moments, especially toward the end when Will lightens up, that just made me giggle like a maniac (while reading in the dark under the covers. Some habits die hard).

My biggest compliment for "Clockwork Prince" goes to the development of Will's character. His angst made him far too similar to Jace (from Ms. Clare's "Mortal Instruments" series), and it was irritating to see such clear parallels between the two. It felt as if Ms. Clare was reusing characters simply because they'd been such a success in her previous series. But! The writer redeemed herself, and I am so pleased with the results. In "Clockwork Prince" we learn the reason for Will's angsty ways, and he manages to "cure" himself of them. After that, we as readers get to see that he is not at all similar to Jace--he really and truly is his own, unique, three-dimensional character. It was a brilliant and swift transformation (once it actually occurred).

I also found the climax of the story to be much longer and more exciting than the first book. It was marvelous--and the fact that I devoured "Clockwork Prince" in a day is indicative of the novel's overall quality. Well done, Ms. Clare! I cannot WAIT for the third installment!

Though it started off slow and didn't pick up until rather far into the book, I found the characters truly growing on me for that first time. The explorations of Will's backstory were great and emotional. I found that by the end of the book, in that last scene, I was smiling giddily because of how happy I was with these characters and their progressions. I had low expectations for this book, and though many of the issues I had with it's predecessor were equally present in this one, the characters really came through in this one, and quite made up the difference.

As always superb imagery! I have to say so far I like TID much more than TMI. Although the triangle between Tessa, Jem, and Will? Necessary, I think not. I absolutely adore Tessa, she doesn't take crap from anybody at all, no matter what. Very refreshing.

The second installment in The Infernal Devices series is a MUST READ!I didn't know it was possible, but I love Jace even more than I did after reading Clockwork Angel. In this book, you really get to see his character develop--and you learn so much about him!!! I love that you actually get questions answered (of course, more are brought up, but hey, I'll take what I can get). This is brilliantly written and Cassandra Clare really sheds some light on the characters. I love her third person style because you really get to see how each character reacts in each situation. You get to see how they feel and it makes the book so much more personal. Now let's talk love triangle! Tessa, Will, Jem--who will she choose? This book is definitely going to get a lively Team Will vs. Team Jem debate brewing. As for me, I will always remain Team Will--I like the bad boys!If you haven't read this yet, you are totally missing out! I demand you run to the bookstore and purchase it now! Why are you still sitting there? Now!

!!!Spoiler-Alert!!!Well, there were quite a few surprises in this one, weren't there? I found myself closing the book and staring at the ceiling on several occasions, so shocked/surprised by what had transpired in the book. But let me recap first. Clockwork Angel left off with Mortmain (the Magister) gone, and Charlotte blaming herself. Will and Tessa had a moment, then he was mean to her and Tessa told herself to hate him from now on. Yeah, as if that was going to happen. In any case, like most of Clare's books Clockwork Prince takes place over the course of only a few days. This time, it's two weeks I think. That is something that I always dislike about her books. So much happens in it, but it's always stuffed into so little time that it feels way busier than it actually is. The book starts with the Council meeting, where a verdict upon Charlotte's actions is spoken and her ability to lead the London Institute is challenged by Benedict Lightwood. If she doesn't find Mortmain in two weeks or at least finds a good trace of him, it will come down to a vote whether or not she will be able to keep the Institute. I'm actually not going to go into the plot much, because I personally am of the opinion that that is one of Clare's absolute strong points. It was action packed, kept me reading late into the night, and I did not expect the ultimate betrayal by ... well, you know who I mean. Instead, I'm going to talk about the characters. Tessa is difficult to place for me. I think she is supposed to be the tough heroine in a place in time when it is definitely not expected of women to be anything else than decor of some sort. But I think she rather fails. She constantly places herself in danger (really, running after Will and Jem into a place possibly infested by automatons?) and doesn't even think how that might make it harder for the others to actually keep her alive. She keeps fainting from minor injuries. She has a head wound and is unconscious for a day I believe, while Will is positively shredded by metal and hops around a few moments later. I know, iratzes and what not. Still, for me this doesn't portray a strong heroine. Mainly someone who needs to be at the center of whatever is going on, constantly. Hence her snooping around Sophie's business. And why, oh why, Tessa would you accept Jem's proposal? I admit, I did a happy dance (Jem-fan that I am) but STILL! Even the reader knows that Tessa loves Will much more than she does Jem. Why on earth would she agree to marry him if she was in love with his parabatai? It just makes no sense to me. It even seems cruel somehow. And Will ... I think I understand him better now, knowing what happened to his sister and his curse and whatnot. Still don't really like him, though. He seems like an exhausting person to know and I can honestly do without that kind of person. I see his charms, though. Although I'm not quite sure whether they will remain the same, now that he doesn't have to be that mean person anymore. One does wonder what will happen with him now, with Cecily there. Jem doesn't seem to have changed much. We saw somewhat of a temper, but I don't think him loving someone is as drastic a change as it is with Will. It fits Jem's persona, somehow. In a way, it feels like he is completed by being loved, while Will is enhanced by it. In any case, Jem deserves to be happy and while Will puts on a good face I think he is still betraying Jem. Just by loving Tessa and not admitting to it. Yes, it would probably destroy their relationship, but it would be the honest thing to do. He should tell Jem about the curse, too. Even though it's not true, but it would explain so much of Will's actions that I think it's invaluable that Jem actually finds out about that. Other characters worth mentioning are definitely Charlotte and Henry. I didn't even notice that they seemed to have marital problems in Clockwork Angel. Or maybe they did and I forgot. In any case, I'm glad it seems to have worked out and oh, how I am looking forward to a Shadowhunter pregnancy! Jessamine ... she's pitiful honestly. There is not much else I can say about her, other that traitor. She did it for love, who cares honestly. When someone is fooled by a person like Nate I think they deserve to rot in a cell in the Silent City. But I'm quite sure she won't stay there. Maybe they will strip her of her marks and she will get what she always thought she wanted; being simply mundane, a lady. If that comes to pass, she won't be happy either though. She is just that kind of person. So quite a long review. Or maybe it's just blabber, I'm not sure. Just my thoughts on the books I believe. Not much criticism, but Clare can hardly do me wrong it seems.

I always find it really hard to write reviews of sequels because I'm always afraid that I'll give away spoilers of the previous books, but I'll do my best to keep this as spoiler free as possible! When I got an ARC of Clockwork Prince in the mail, I was literally jumping up and down with joy; I was so unbelievably excited! And you know what? As per usual with Cassandra Clare, this book surpassed all of my expectations! The first words out of my mouth after finishing Clockwork Prince were "Oh... my God. That's the best book I've read in my whole life"(and I'm not joking, that's exactly what I said. I actually wrote down my exact quote so that I could include it in my review lol!). After the initial excitement of finishing Clockwork Prince, I don't know if I can still say that it was the best book that I've ever read, but hell, it's defiantly one of the best! One of my favourite things about the Infernal Devices series is the amazing cast of characters! They're all so unique and different from each other, yet I feel like they compliment each other so well and make for such an interesting cast! I feel really attached to so many of the characters in this series. Cassandra Clare just has this amazing ability to make the characters, despite their supernatural abilities, so easy to relate to and connect with!In Clockwork Angel, I felt like Tessa was the main focus of the book, but what I really liked about Clockwork Prince was that, in my opinion, there was a lot more focus on Will. I absolutely adore Will and we got to learn so much more about him, and the motivation behind his actions, in Clockwork Prince. In Clockwork Angel, Will seemed very shrouded in mystery to me. There was a lot that we didn't know about him, but there were definitely hints that there was way more to him then met the eye. What I loved about Clockwork Prince was that we got to see a lot more from Will's perspective! We found out about his past and why he behaves the way he does.As well as seeing a different side of Will in this book, we also got to see a very different side of Jem. Jem is so kind and loving, such a sweetheart, but in this book there is more to him than that. We get to see a bit of a darker side of him as well as a much more forward side. In Clockwork Prince, I was reminded that Jem is still a teenaged boy, despite his illness.Another thing that I loved about Clockwork Prince was that Tessa's relationships with both Will and Jem seemed to develop and evolve so much. In Clockwork Angel, there were definitely sparks of romance with both boys, but things really started to heat up in this book! The plot of Clockwork Prince was great, as expected! This book takes place not long after the events of the first book and deals with the aftermath and consequences of what happened in the end of Clockwork Angel. I was really into it from the very beginning and it had me flipping the pages as fast as I could! I really love the story of the Infernal Devices series! Also, Cassandra Clare's writing was just as good as it always is, so smooth and easy to read, yet very detailed! Her words really pull me into the story! I have very high expectations of Cassandra Clare and she never disappoints or ceases to amaze me with her amazing books!

I'm not sure I can review this without sounding ridiculous. This book isn't good, honestly both series aren't that great, but it doesn't matter because I love reading Clare's books. I'm not sure why, but I'm also not going to question it. I'll just keep reading them until I get tired or bored.

I LOVED this book for a few reasons. For one, the characters are brilliant. Cassandra Clare is a great author because she carries the same characters from one book to another, also adds new characters. For a second reason, I always enjoy Tessa and Will's relationship, but Jem and Tessa's relationship is growing stronger, so it kinda makes it a love triangle. This book has many people's perspectives, and I really liked seeing different reactions in all the characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read Clockwork Angel, and is looking for the second book in the Infernal Devices Series.

In this highly anticipated sequel to Clockwork Angel, Cassandra Clare weaves a fantastic story that picks you up and drops you down into the middle of The London Institute as if you never left. Tessa has grown in character and not only is she more confident, but she has become even more amazing as the heroine that I grew to love in Clockwork Angel. Although her powers still confound her, she has grown into them and they are no longer something she fears. Then there is Will. Will, who we all know has a terrible secret, and it is a terrible burden for him, but what is more terrible is that even his secret has a secret. His emotional imprisonment has been so devastating that you want to weep for him. Jem is steady, as always, but I felt as if he gained a lot if depth in this book and I grew much more attached to him as a character. The same can be said about Charlotte and Henry, as well as Sophie. I loved the way we received new and startling information (finally, the TRUTH about Demon Pox!) while gently learning new things about characters we already loved. With every new thing you learn, you can't help but fast forward and think about how, several generations later, these decisions might affect a certain group of young Shadowhunters in New York, but I digress. I read many reviews that said the book made them laugh out loud at points, and that is true, but it was also heartbreaking in many ways. More than that, however, was the feeling that you are back among friends. Cassandra Clare's research and world building is so meticulous and thorough that when I finally put the book down, I was surprised to find myself in modern day Texas and not Victorian England. I can't really be rational in describing my love for the Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instrument series, but I will say that if you read these books, you will not regret it. These are books that you will pick up over and over again over the years. They should sit on the shelves next to your Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings. They are books that will only get better over time.

The Good Stuff Can see what the fuss is all about now - Clare is a brilliant storyteller and I cannot wait to read the Mortal Instruments series Fascinating characters - love each and everyone of them --even the bad guys because they are so richly drawn Good continuation of Clockwork Angel Plenty of twists and turns that will keep you enthralled with the story and not want to put it down The Steampunk Victorian England she has created feels so very real Lots of fun snarky dialogue mixed with beautiful heartbreaking moments Love the scenes between Will -- and -- well pretty much everyone -- such a wonderful character Totally in love with Magnus, what an intriguing character, need to know more about him The scene between Tessa and Will near the end of the book is so beautifully done and so achingly sad -- I was tearing up Jem is so sweet and wonderful -- but I would still choose Will -- like the naughtier boys myself - but Tessa would work with either choice - I say let her have both Strong witty female characters Good cliffhanger ending - that doesn't frustrate, but intrigues -- damn how long am I going to have to wait for that Relationships are very realistic and not typical of much of the YA stuff -- nice character development too Love the covers of Clare's books, they look oh so pretty on my book shelfThe Not So Good Stuff Drags a wee bit about half way through -- but does pick up A little bit too much of the choosing between two hot boys for this jaded 41 yr old mom -- but the teens will definitely swoonFavorite Quotes/Passages"There was something about the smell of books, the ink-and-paper-and-leather scent, the way dust in a library seemed to behave differently from the dust in any other room - it was golden in the light of the witchlight tapers, settling like pollen across the polished surfaces of the long tables.""He was really going to have to do something about this annoying softhearted impulse to assist the desperate, Magnus thought.""Oh, I'd say a friend." said Tessa. "One doesn't usually let one's business associates lick one's face. Although I could be wrong. What do I know about these things? I'm only a silly woman."Who Should/Shouldn't Read Pretty much everyone will enjoy (would recommend reading Clockwork Angel first though) Fans of Cassandra Clare -- obviously will enjoy Will definitely be introducing this series to my niece4.5 Dewey'sI received this from Simon and Schuster in Exchange for an Honest Review

In short: Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare is an exciting sequel featuring heart-wrenching story developments that make for a truly addictive read.Cassandra Clare has a true talent for messing with her characters' emotions, putting them through hell just when you think they might get a happy ending. This in turn causes the reader to be put through hell too as she also does such a good job at making us fall in love with her characters that it is all the more heart-wrenching when terrible things happen to them. Heart-wrenching sums up my feelings for Clockwork Prince pretty well. And I loved every second of it.I know I say this in every review of Cassandra Clare's books that I write, but I am terribly fond of her characters. Somehow, Cassie has managed to come up with a whole slew of enigmatic characters just waiting for us to read about to uncover their secrets and mysteries. Every character, main and side, have their own unique and well defined personalities and their own intriguing back stories. It's addictive, this need to uncover the new additions to the seemingly endless backstory reveals for each character. From the moment I opened Clockwork Prince, it was a race to the finish. The plot progresses nicely in this sequel. Not only are characters changing and developing (in Will's case, drastically), but the plot line surrounding The Magister, his clockwork creatures, and the mystery behind what sort of magical being is Tessa, continues in a rather intriguing way, with lots of action and surprises. It still came off as the second book in a trilogy in that there was a definite building up of even greater things to come, but at no point did the plot seem like unimportant filler as is often the case in second books. My one quibble is the introduction of the love triangle. I find that they mess with my mind too much, and not in a good way. I find them a bit stressful, to be honest. I would have preferred to have seen more action scenes in the stead of all the love triangle drama that crowded the end of Clockwork Prince. Despite this, Clockwork Prince was an exciting and addictive sequel to an amazing series. I would highly recommend giving The Infernal Devices Series a try if you haven't yet, and checking out Clockwork Prince when it's released December 6, 2011!

He was rude, annoying, disrespectful and that is not sexy! No matter how sexy you are on the outside, that kind of attitude will ruin you flat out. I couldn't understand for the life of me why people were Team Will in the first place...However, I was so shocked and pleasantly surprised by how amazing this book was that my excitement for Clockwork Princess and City of Lost Souls has increased ten fold! I can't wait for the next books because my faith has been restored, thanks to this book!First off, as always, the writing was amazing. I have always loved Cassie's writing from the beginning because she's able to pull us in so easily into the world that she creates, whether it be present day New York or the old times of England. The atmosphere created is so fresh and wonderfully authentic and I love how at the end of the books, she takes the time to explain to the reader how much research she did to make the location as authentic as possible, which is really appreciated.I am happy to say that I liked Tessa a lot more in this book which is weird. Usually, I have an instant dislike of characters who are caught in between two guys and constantly switch. However, there was a profound difference with Tessa in this book. She seemed more human to me at least. I was proud of her because she decided not to be hung up on Will and opened her horizons...and found not just love, but passion in Jem!And no matter what anyone says, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE JEM! HE IS SEXY!!!!! XD Jem is not only a gentleman, but his character has been revealed more in this book: his likes, his insecurities, his inner self...and his passion. The passion he shared with Tessa dripped off the page and practically killed me it was so hot! I think they would make a very good couple simply because there's so much potential. That being said...my opinion has changed of Will. Despite my dislike of him in the last book, I was very excited to see what his big secret was. The impact of it didn't really effect me. I mean, I read it and I didn't really care as mean as that is to say. But I immediately understood his pain and I appreciated the fact that he wanted to change because he was in love and I liked how willing he was to push others away to protect them. And then it hit me: holy shit he loves her and she loves Jem! When the whole secret was revealed, it killed me. Because Jem deserves a happy ending but so does Will and so does Tessa! Plus, I don't want Jem to die! Yet...I know that Will is going to end up marrying someone and having kids, I know that Jem...probably won't make it, even if it kills me, and I know Cassie is probably going to make Tessa end up with Will. The truth is, I don't want to lose my favorite characters. But Clockwork Princess will most certainly break my heart in some way, I just know it.Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Do not bother reading this if you haven't read book one in this trilogy, "Clockwork Angel." The author obviously assumes no one will just happen upon this and read it; or she isn't concerned about the two teen readers who haven't yet read the earlier book or the companion series, "The Mortal Instruments."Anyway, this story picks up where Book 1 left off, and if you don't know or remember that or what Will said to Tessa up there in the attic, you will be scratching your head. Thank goodness warlocks are immortal and Magnus Bane periodically makes an appearance. His werewolf friend also offers a bit of relief from the tedium of requited and unrequited love.

This goes down fast and the love triangle is intriguing (though I think I see where it's going now). I still prefer the main characters in The Mortal Instruments over the ones in The Infernal Devices. It may be that there are fewer actual battles in The Infernal Devices trilogy, but the action doesn't seem to really heat up before the book is over (although some of the love scenes get pretty hot!), and then it's time to wait for the next one. This isn't to say I didn't like Clockwork Prince; I actually liked it better than Clockwork Angel. Even though I wasn't wowed, I'll still be reading Clockwork Princess, when it comes out in November or December.

In the the second book in the Infernal Devices trilogy, the threat of Mortmain and his clockwork creatures looms over the London Institute and the Shadowhunters. Accused of being an incompetent director of the Institute by Benedict Lightwood, Charlotte is told by the Consul she must find Mortmain in a fortnight or lose the Institute. Henry, Will, Jem, and Tessa are all invested in ensuring that the Institute isn't handed over to Benedict and pitch in to find the mysterious mortal who still desperately wants Tessa and her shapechanging abilities. In the midst of these investigations, Tessa finds herself caught between her attraction to Will and her growing affection for Jem.This is an excellent second book in a trilogy. While the villain that was set up in the first novel hovers over the plot, lending an ominous air and contributing to the mystery of why Tessa is a shapechanger and where she came from, the book also includes major character developments for every character we encountered in the previous novel. There are some steamy moments between Tessa and Jem and Tessa and Will, which will make shippers for either pair very happy, and although there is a triangle developing, Clare does it well and throws kinks into the works that make its resolution unclear at this point. However, the best discovery is learning about Will's past and why he is the way he is. Again, the poetry excerpts at the beginning of each chapter add a nice touch and it's fun for the reader to piece together how the few lines will relate to the chapter's contents. While the novel again has a bit of a cliffhanger, it's not one that will have readers screaming for the next book. Many of the threads are tied up neatly by the end of the book, leaving only the overarching plot of the trilogy unresolved. I'm definitely looking forward to the release of the final book and wish September 2013 weren't quite so far away.

This is my last 2011 book review -- I finished this just a few days before New Years. I'm happy to say I was extremely happy with my last read of the new year. This book, once again, follows Tessa in not only her quest to figure out who she is, but to also work with the Shadowhunters to find the Magister and figure out what his plans are. I can honestly say that this series, the Clockwork series, is by far one of the best I've ever read (I actually enjoy it a lot more than I have the Mortal Instruments, which is hard to surpass -- but hey, it's the same author, so I figure it's okay). So, since this is a sequel, my review is going to be more plot based, as well as character development -- and boy was there character development (those of you who read my lengthy reviews... you know how much I think characters matter).First, the plot. For the most part I thought this book was pretty good in regards to a plot -- it had an arc that satisfied my curiosity and desire to continue to read. However, I guess I felt that there wasn't that much action. When I say that, I mean there was definitely suspense, danger, and interesting activities/interactions throughout the novel, however the action you wait for is in the last quarter (or less) of the book. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing -- the way the book it written you know you're more or less waiting for this explosion of crazy, and the scene delivers. While the main plot is what drives the novel, I was much more fascinated by the sub-plots, specifically the romantic issues and familial issues that come up. The love triangle of Will - Tess - Jem gets thrown through quite a few loops due to both of these aspects. This is also where we see the most development, not just in our main characters, but what I'd call "rising characters." For me, those would include Sophie and Gideon Lightwood, I don't want to give too much away, but I'd say that they are two characters to watch for the last installment. I think they have a lot to add, and I'd actually love to see more chapters from Sophie's perspective (there were one or two if I remember correctly, and I enjoyed them). As for our main characters, huge twists are thrown our way. I don't want to spoil anything, a lot of these surprises are worth reading on your own, with the respective jaw drops and "ahhhh" moments. Lets just say Will isn't who he wants people to think he is (not too surprising there) and Jem is not the one to stay in Will's shadow much longer. If anyone stayed more or less the same, it was Tessa. She's still confused as to who she is, how she was created, and what her supposed purpose is. If anything? Her main revolution is in regards to her family. (Like I said, romance and family are the main undercurrents of this novel... of course with some other lovely tidbits, but these are some of the main motivators of our characters, and I really liked it.)In the end, a lot of things come together in this novel, lots of surprises and twists with all characters -- main or secondary. Things are so woven together, it's fascinating. If you had any doubt after reading the first novel, I'd say at least give this one a go. When I read these novels... they make me fall into a historical fiction/paranormal funk where that's all I want to read. So, was this a good way to end my year? It totally was. Here's to my last book of 2011 -- all the reviews you'll be seeing will have officially been read in 2012.

Summary: In the wake of Mortmain's disastrous attack, the Shadowhunter council is questioning Charlotte's ability to run the London Institute. The case against her is being brought by Benedict Lightwood, who wants control of the Institute for himself, and demands that Charlotte and the Shadowhunters under her care produce evidence of Mortmain's current location within the next two weeks, or else step down. Tessa Grey, despite not being a Shadowhunter herself vows to help the people she's come to see as her family any way she can... but it's hard when her emotions are in such knots. After Will Herrondale's rude and hurtful behavior, she's vowed to herself not to let herself be affected by him, but she can't help but be drawn to him... almost as much as she is drawn to the frail but good-hearted Jem Carstairs, Will's best friend and blood-brother.Review: Clockwork Angel was the first of Cassandra Clare's books that I'd read, and I really enjoyed it... enough that I promptly went out and read through the Mortal Instruments trilogy, which I liked well enough, but didn't hold a candle (witchlight?) to Clockwork Angel. Part of that is certainly that on general principles, I prefer Victorian London to modern-day NYC, but I can safely say that most of it is due to the wonderful, sympathetic, well-developed characters in the Infernal Devices books. And it's a good thing that I like them so much, because Clockwork Prince is very heavily focused on the characters and their relationships.Yes, it's a love triangle. Yes, love triangles have been more-or-less done to death, especially in teen fantasy fiction. But even so, I spent a lot of the book thinking "now this is how you do a love triangle". Love triangles work best when it's a true triangle, rather than an arrow; the bond between the two guys has to be equally (if not more) strong than the bond between either of the guys and the girl. That's absolutely the case here; Will and Jem's relationship is one of the more interesting and moving relationships in the series, and neither one would be who he is without the presence of the other. Added in to that the fact that Tessa has valid, believable feelings for (and massively steamy make-out sessions with) both of them, and you've got a truly heart-wrenching love triangle, with no obvious solution. I think Clare's pretty obvious about which couple is going to end up together, but in this case, that surprisingly worked in her favor, since I spent maybe the last third of the book in cringing agony, waiting for the other shoe to drop and Tessa to start breaking hearts. As much as I got sucked in to the interpersonal storylines, I did at points wish there was a little more plot. Mortmain is absent for more-or-less the entire book, and while we do get some answers - mostly hints about Tessa's parentage - it didn't feel like there was a ton of movement on any of the series's main story threads. Granted, I was too absorbed in the Will/Tessa/Jem situation (as well as the stories involving the other characters; also: yay Magnus!) to notice at the time, but in retrospect, not a ton of non-relationship stuff happened. I was kind of ambivalent on the audiobook production. It was narrated by Heather Lind and Ed Westwick, who both did fine jobs (although I didn't love Ed's voice for Tessa). Initially, I assumed that Lind would read Tessa's POV scenes, and Westwick would read the boys' scenes; that narrator-split-by-gender is pretty common in multi-narrated books. However, there seemed to be not a lot of rhyme or reason to who read what, sometimes switching in the middle of a chapter or a scene, sometimes one reading for several chapters in a row, so that the net effect of having multiple narrators was more distracting than beneficial. Despite that, though, this was on the whole the kind of book that kept me looking for excuses to listen to more, so I can't ask for much more than that. 4 out of 5 stars.Recommendation: This definitely needs to be read in order after Clockwork Angel, but I'd recommend the series to anyone who likes historical teen fantasy, or love triangles done right.

To be honest here, I've been having a hard time writing this review. I have been done with Clockwork Prince since the day before it came out, and I've started this review at least half a dozen times but I just can't seem to get ny words to make sense. (Which is why I'm a reader, not an author!)Here it is: I was disappointed with Clockwork Prince. I had high expectations going into the novel and maybe that was the problem. I read and loved Clare's Clockwork Angel so I was eager for the story to continue, but the story was dragged on for what seemed like too long. For the first part of Clockwork Prince I was downright not interested. The story line wasn't there to make me want to read and Will, Jem and Tessa though there in the story didn't feel there to me (you know what I mean, I'm sure).Where Clockwork Angel ended I was expecting this one to follow it and be big and eventful, but I found it was lacking and dull. It wasn't until about page 300 (or somewhere around there) that the book seem to pull me in. The Shadowhunters continued their search for the Magister and the characters became alive again. All of a sudden the book was up to where I thought it was going to be and I couldn't put it down. Will and Jem have been 2 of my favourite characters and they were awesome from here forward! Will - the mysterious one who has secrets to hide and something to say about everything has a chance to finally get what he wants but we find out that he may be too late and girls, this will break your heart (Even if you aren't "Team Will".) Though if you are Team Will, you're in luck as a lot of Clockwork Prince was about him so there is plenty of time for Will to be swooned over! But Jem, the kind, well spoken of the two realizes that he can no longer hide his feelings and does something that I didn't see coming (until the moment leading up and I was like "No...NO way, this cannot be happening...") At first, I was shocked, I was concerned as to why Clare was taking this route for these characters, but I got over it, and it wasn't too bad anymore. Though I am so ready to find out more!Tessa, Tessa Tessa...where do we begin. Her independence has just gone straight down the drain. She has become almost needy and selfish and it was a bit irritating to read at some points. Maybe there's reason behind this but I'm not sure. But, there are other characters back and as usual they are fascinating and well written. Jessamine is like you've never seen her, Henry and Charlotte have a revelation and Magnus is better than ever with his advice and one-liners.Clare's writing, though I don't need to touch on that too much if you've read her work before or any of my reviews of her books for that matter, is just amazing. She can draw you into her world like there's nothing to it. She can paint pictures in your head as if you are right there watching the novel unfold through your own eyes. Clare really has a talent for writing! That all being said, I guess my overall reaiting of Clockwork Prince is that it was a pretty decent read. If you can get past the first part, then you're in for something worth it in the end. Though there wasn't much Shadowhunter action going on, there was definitely some other action happening! Check it out for yourself if you haven't already, and be on the lookout near the end of 2012 for Book 3 in The Infernal Devices Series, Clockwork Princess.

I loved this book as much as the first, Clockwork Angel. Something about this world appeals to me, with its supernatural creatures and hunters set in Victorian England. This book reveals a few answers to mysteries, and creates a few more. As a warning, this review will contain spoilers. The Shadowhunter crew and Tessa are still hot on the trail of Mortmain, and while they diligently follow their leads, they never find him. Following one of their leads, Will is shocked to see his sister, Cecily! Will has been operating under a curse that states death will come to any that love, or so he believed - he is working closely with Magnus to to try to reverse it, as he is in love with Tessa. Because of this curse, he ran from his family, to protect them. The event where he is cursed is a very good scene in the book- you feel so bad for Will! And Magnus, what a great character. His parts were few and there needed to be more of them.I didn't feel bad enough for Will though; Tessa and Jem's relationship gets closer, and steamier. The whole book I was terrified that Tessa was going to break his heart! Tessa seems more mature in this book, however, and I liked where this plot went. As for Charlotte and Henry, they reveal to each other the fears they had regarding the other's feelings, and are firmly, madly in love. The best scene in the book is Henry's heroics in a tea warehouse. Charolotte is my favorite character, small but mighty, mothering and strong. She has her own battles to fight in this book, and was up to the task.Sophie and Jessamine have secret loves in this book - Sophie with Gideon Lightwood, and Jessamine, with none other than Nathan Gray, Tessa's brother! These two and their romances play pivotal roles in the plot of this book - you will have to read it to find out what happens there. This novel ended on quite a cliffhanger- I can't wait to read the next in the series!

Clare weaves a wonderful plot in Clockwork Prince with many twists and turns. It had been many months since I read Clockwork Angel, but I was quickly pulled back in to the Shadowhunter world. Tessa is safe with the Shadowhunters in London, but the search for Mortmain continues. Tessa's relationships with Jem and Will left me breathless a few times, and like Tessa's feelings at the end of the book, I am torn between Jem and Will. It was nice to learn information about why Will is the way he is, and knowing this information made my heart break at the end. My students will enjoy this book. Now the countdown for Clockwork Princess! :)

Clockwork Prince is a book that WShakespeare and CDickens will be proud of. I was on the fence about Jessamine but my heart went out to her when her cards were dealt. You can tell that she was so desperate to escape her destiny she'd take any way out, even consort with the enemy. Which brings the question, will CClare redeem her? Jem's health in contrast with his noble heart will surely give you mixed feelings of sympathy and adoration. And lastly, the tragedy of unrequited love will never ever fail to elicit strong emotions from any reader regardless of age. It's not enough that Will Herondale's past is tragic but it seems that his future will be no different as well. To say that he was a little too late is an understatement. My heart was truly broken after I read Will's letter to his family. So I have another question, what is the cost of Will's happy ending?

I normally would try to compare the second book to the first, but in this case, I can't. They are both amazingly good. Some twists in this one that I never would have expected. I definitely can't wait for the next one. Especially after that ending.

Clockwork Prince, the second book of The Infernal Devices, blew me away. I enjoyed Clockwork Angel, but, for me, this sequel was even more dramatic and passionate. I fell deeper in love with the characters and felt ther anguish and joy more keenly. I can't stand to wait for Clockwork Princess.

This is another book I couldn't wait to read. It has been sitting in my tbr pile for so long that I need to get to it. Let me tell you, I loved this book. There are many changes in the book that left me gasping. The plot line of the book is slow at first. It took me a while to find my place in this world and to catch up with the characters. Once I was in, I steadied my self for a search for answers that Tess has been wanting to know. With each new chapter, the reader draws closer to more secrets exposed. I enjoyed that the plot line was a slow build up. It gave just the right amount of tension to an explosive ending. The characters of the book will you shock. I mean, when I was reading this, I was speechless at the turn of events happening left and right. The decisions that the characters make, you do not see it coming. It all comes at you and your just like," WOAH!" I am super happy with the way the characters have progressed. They have shown much growth and strength in who they are. Some made good decisions while other made bad decisions. I am especially happy with they way the characters are selfless in their action as well. Despite all that they have been through, the stay true to each other.Clockwork Prince accomplishes all that a reader wants in a book. The creativity of the world building leaves the reader happy and hooked. Bold and excellent, Clockwork Prince is another powerful story set to ensnare the reader and never let go.
