A delightful first novel by Pierre Szalowski. Set in Montreal, the narrator is an 11 year old boy whose parents tell him that they are separating. In despair he appeals to the sky for help, and lo-and-behold the weather changes. An ice-storm engulfs the whole region. The ensuing lack of electric power, and the shut down of whole areas of the city have a profound affect on his friends, neighbours and ultimately his parents. One of his neighbours is a young Russian conducting a complex series of observations on the movements of fish as part of his PhD thesis - as he observes, fish change direction in cold weather- and so it seems do people.
