About this audiobook

If you think dinosaurs are cool, wait till you learn what covered Earth 430 million years ago. That's long before dinos even existed. There wasn't much on land-some really tiny plants and even smaller animals like millipedes and mites. But offshore life was another story. Six-foot-long relatives of modern scorpions roamed the open water, gobbling up smaller creatures. Fish were out there, too. There just weren't many of them, and they were much different than today's fish. For one thing, they didn't have jaws. But they were the first animals to have backbones. Eventually they crawled out of the water on primitive feet-and the rest is history! Award-winning author and illustrator Hannah Bonner delivers an engaging and thoroughly entertaining tour through a few hundred million years of evolution. "[A] heaping course of science that will both stick to the ribs and tickle them."-Kirkus Reviews

The description in this book of the transition from fish to four-legged animals is fascinating! The author does a great job of keeping lots of information entertaining and simple. Great series!

This book would have been great in my college geology class. It makes learning about prehistoric creatures interesting and puts them into a simplified order to gain some general knowledge. I think lots of kids skip over the part between the big bang and dinosaurs, and this makes part of that time period exciting!

Full of interesting facts and funny little cartoons, this book examines life way before the dinosaurs. Hannah Bonner presents the Silurian and Devonian periods in accessible terms and with appealing and informative illustrations. Hand this one to any kid interested in dinosaurs. It's a cool way to find out what was there before the dinosaurs were a twinkle in evolution's eye. (Especially cool to me was seeing pictures of how the continents were arranged... before Pangea!)
