- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Eva is cheerful, romantic and positive. She runs an event and concierge business together with two friends and food is her specialty. When she gets the request to make a penthouse on 5th Avenue ready for Christmas she can't wait. She's supposed to stay there for a few days, so she can decorate the place and prepare meals for when the owner returns, which should be a nice surprise for him. However, when she arrives someone is still there. Lucas was supposed to be gone, but now Eva is stuck with him. Will she be able to survive this?
Lucas is a successful crime writer who likes solitude. He told everyone he knows he'd be writing in Vermont, but he's actually still in New York and hasn't written a single word. Christmas has become a difficult time for him and even after several years he can't find a way to deal with his grief. He wants to be completely alone and the last thing he thinks he could use is an over-enthusiastic woman in his home. Eva can't leave though, so he has to deal with her company. Is it actually as bad as he thought it would be or is Eva's sunny outlook on life and her inability to hide her love for Christmas exactly what Lucas needs?
Miracle on 5th Avenue is a fun Christmas story. I immediately liked Eva, she's got a lovely bubbly and energetic personality. She believes in true love, is always honest about her feelings and the way she sees the world is adorable. Lucas has a good heart, but he has a dark outlook on life, he could definitely use some of her lively spirit and I admired her determination to bring Christmas magic into his cold apartment. Eva manages to thaw the place and warm Lucas's heart, which is the exact right idea for a story about true love.
Sarah Morgan has a nice heartwarming way with words. I like that she writes about friendship as well as love, she describes the meaningful things in life in an amazing way. I love all of her main characters, their personalities always stand out in a fabulous manner. Miracle on 5th Avenue is an endearing story filled with sparks and Christmas cheer. It's a lively Christmas fairytale with a wonderful cute ending. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A cute, cozy winter story between a reclusive and hurting crime/horror author and the sweet optimist who becomes his Muse.
I would've liked it more but the ending was rushed and lacked all the tension of the beginning. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/54.5 stars.
The third installment in Sarah Morgan's heartwarming From Manhattan with Love series, Miracle on 5th Avenue is a delightfully charming opposites attract romance.
Eva Jordan is a bubbly, upbeat romantic who always tries to find the silver lining in every situation. She fervently believes in happily ever after and although she has not yet met her Prince Charming, she has not yet given up hope she will find eventually find him. Eva is down to earth and although she always looks for the best in people, she is quite perceptive. She is rather chatty and she has an endearing tendency to speak whatever thought comes to mind. Eva is a funny, kind-hearted and compassionate young woman who goes out of her way to help the people she cares about.
Crime writer Lucas Blade is cynical, jaded and has a bad habit of always looking for the worst in people. He is still grieving the loss of his wife and he has become a virtual recluse in the three years since her death. With both a book deadline and the holidays fast approaching, Lucas is at a very low point when he Eva enters his life. Grumpy, rude and wanting to be left on his own, Lucas has no choice but to find a way to keep Eva by his side when she becomes the unexpected inspiration for his next book.
Despite their differences, a surprising friendship quickly springs up between Eva and Lucas. She refuses to let his negativity bring her down and her unrelenting cheerful attitude slowly but surely begins to have a positive effect on Lucas. With a genuine affection growing between them, they reveal the hidden parts of themselves that they have not felt comfortable showing anyone else. A mutual attraction simmers beneath the surface but for various reasons, they try to fight giving in to their desire. However, it is inevitable that they act on their passion but will Lucas's complicated past prevent them from finding their happily ever after?
Miracle on 5th Avenue is a captivating addition to Sarah Morgan's From Manhattan with Love series. Both Lucas and Eva are complex characters with realistic flaws and human foibles that readers will find easy to relate to. The rapport between Lucas and Eva is instantaneous despite their somewhat unconventional first meeting and it is an absolute joy watching their friendship deepen into love. This enchanting love story will melt readers' hearts as it comes to a sweetly romantic conclusion. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was fun. A lot of fun. Especially because of the sometimes hilarious banter between the protagonists, which sometimes reminded me of dialogues with my 6yo: "I like blue cars. Blue cars are great. Shall we have Spaghetti for dinner? Look at that tree over there, it's cute. ..." (jumping seamlessly from one topic to the next)
The epiphany moment at the end was, to my taste, strange. Especially since the heroine suddenly was no longer romantic and didn't spot the obvious.
Still 5 stars, because of the fun I had reading this book. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Eva Jordan is a hopeless romantic in the worst time of year to be single: the holidays. Furthermore, she is struggling with grief following the death of her grandmother who raised her. Yet through all of this she remains optimistic. Even in the face of her latest work assignment, the cynical widowed crime fiction writer, Lucas Blade. When a winter storm traps them in the same place, will opposites attract?I was a little nervous about starting this book because I had not realized that it was part of a series before I had requested it. Fortunately, it did not hinder the storyline at all. This book could easily read as a standalone and I assume the other 2 books have to do with her 2 best friends and co-workers. There is a brief background provided when these characters are introduced that was helpful and flowed well with the story. What also flowed well with the story was the development of the characters. Lucas and Eva's story reminded me of the tale of Beauty & The Beast as we see Lucas transform from cynical to charming. Additionally, events in the story also reminded me of Cinderella, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Anastasia. Since all of the above mentioned movies are some of my favorites, this book also quickly became one of my favorites. In fact, once I finished it, I was tempted to start the book over right away because it made me so happy. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for an uplifting holiday romance. However, I should also warn you not to read this book hungry because Eva also has a food blog and her culinary creations were very tempting. For those who may be sensitive: there is foul language and graphic sex scenes. Please note: a copy of this book was generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
