About this audiobook
The First Epistle to the Corinthians claims no author except "the Church of God which sojourns at Rome", but the early church unanimously attributed it to Clement of Rome. This letter had a profound impact on the early church and was commonly read aloud to congregations even through the fourth century – a fact that demonstrates the letter's importance to the early believers and the endurance of the call to repentance found within its pages.
Little is known about Clement of Rome. Some believe he was the companion of Paul mentioned in Philippians 4:3. He is also listed as the fourth Pope, according to Catholic tradition – Pope Saint Clement I. While many details are uncertain, it is clear that Clement was a prominent Christian leader who worked closely with the apostles and cared deeply for the church. As the believers experienced increasing persecution by the Roman Empire, writings like this one helped them persevere.
May it do the same for you.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent reader, great quality recording. The content was greatly appreciated, the music added between chapters was very appropriate for the subject, highly recommended. It gave me a glance at the spirituality of the first century.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love hearing a classic like this read aloud, because it lights up a different part of the brain. Usually, I track along with a digital version and save notes and bookmarks. (I used The Ante Nicene Fathers, volume one, by Roberts & Donaldson, available on Scripd.) This edition from CCEL is a treasure and a treat. The narrator does an admirable job, despite a few quirky pronunciations. His tone and pacing are excellent.
As for content, the epistles of Clement of Rome along with all the writings of the Apostolic fathers provide an amazing window into the way the early church both read and applied the Scriptures and Apostolic tradition. As a Reformed Protestant, I am not looking to mine these sources to support a polemic; rather, I am learning from them and seeking to be a better reader of scripture and follower of Christ.
