- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Title: Priceless (She’s Worth Fighting For: A Novel)Author: Joel & Luke SmallbonePages: 288Year: 2016Publisher: Worthy PublishingMy rating is 5 stars.Hold onto your heart when you begin reading this story because it really is a riveting novel! What starts with a couple leaving their daughter with a mother-in-law so they can have some time together becomes a tale of lives forever changed! The main male character is named James and while not a rich man by any means, has a good marriage with a loving wife along with an adoring daughter. James’ life takes a tragic turn that begins his descent into places of wrongdoing, committing acts that he never thought he would. While his descent is an easy slippery slope, climbing back out and becoming the father his young daughter needs is another matter altogether. James feels if he can just make one huge score with a large payoff, his life will at least become more stable and he can have his daughter back with him full time. What he didn’t anticipate in this decision was that again his life would become entangled with other people and perhaps he would fall in love again. My understanding is this novel is due to become a movie released October 14th of this year. The ending is a mixture of astonishment and amazement at least as far as this reviewer/reader is concerned. Also, learning who these young men are who wrote the story with Nancy Rue I think will touch people as well. The tale is very moving and it has suspense, romance, tragedy, and forgiveness just to name a few themes. This is a very well written and touching book one that I hope many will read!Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was a well done story. It was nice to see James begin to turn his life around and then he almost blows what he began. He is in a bad spiral down when his wife dies in a tragic accident and then he begins to improve his life for his daughter. Then things are not going fast enough for him so he tries something he isn't sure is legal and this turns his life around. Enjoyed a lot. I received this book from First to blog through Worthy for a fair and honest opinion.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Priceless is a book every Christian should read. While it definitely has the feel of a novelization — short on character development and long on visual descriptions — it portrays the very real, yet little discussed, epidemic of sex trafficking in the United States. This book was an eye-opener for me. Like main character James Stevens, I will never view a box truck or low-rent motel the same way again. Priceless plunges the reader into a world of desperation, hopelessness and despair. Lives are destroyed, innocence is trampled and the soul is damaged almost beyond repair all in the name of money and lust. But there is hope and redemption and justice through our Lord.James Stevens is on a fast spiral downward following the death of his wife. With everything he holds dear lost, he takes on a job that promises to pay big, a promise he needs to get his life back on track. Yet there is no such thing as easy money, and James soon finds out that he is very much involved in sex trafficking. With little help, he is determined to free the women he let slip into slavery. The action is fast-paced, the world depicted is gritty and sordid, and the stakes are high as this novel reveals the ugliness of the underworld many choose to ignore and others dive into.I wanted to read Priceless because my daughter is a therapist for a non-profit organization (Selah Freedom) that works to free women from sex-trafficking. I knew intellectually all about the issue, but Priceless was a revelation. The book is definitely not pretty, but it is real. Here are a couple of quotes that spoke to me:. . . [sex trafficking is] a disease that was born of the flesh but ate away at the soul.. . . the only cure was a heart transplant. For people to see in women the worth that couldn’t be measured. When discussing this book with my daughter, I found that many of her clients lived a life very similar to that depicted in the book. That’s why I recommend it — it is for anyone who believes that God can defeat evil and change lives. Priceless shows just how He does it.Recommended.Audience: adults.(Thanks to Worthy Publishing for a review copy. All opinions expressed are mine
