About this audiobook

After bursting onto the fantasy scene with his acclaimed debut novel, Elantris, and following up with his blockbuster Mistborn trilogy, Brandon Sanderson proves again that he is today's leading master of what Tolkien called "secondary creation," the invention of whole worlds, complete with magics and myths all their own. Warbreaker is the story of two sisters, who happen to be princesses, the God King one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn't like his job, and the immortal who's still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago. Their world is one in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren's capital city and where a power known as BioChromatic magic is based on an essence known as breath that can only be collected one unit at a time from individual people. By using breath and drawing upon the color in everyday objects, all manner of miracles and mischief can be accomplished. It will take considerable quantities of each to resolve all the challenges facing Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris; Susebron the God King; Lightsong, reluctant god of bravery, and mysterious Vasher, the Warbreaker.

I kept putting this one off for some reason and now that I have read it I'm kicking myself for not doing so sooner! This (like everything Sanderson writes) was brilliant. I got completely immersed in the world, the compelling cast, unique magic system and the clever plot. I never knew who to trust while I was reading and it kept me guessing all the way until the end. The ending was good but not very satisfying to me, I felt there were a lot of wholes left to be filled. I am really looking forward to someday getting a sequel to this and diving back into this world all over again.

I first read Brandon Sandersons Reckoners Series and really liked it. So I’ve since listened to a couple of more books by him and enjoyed them as well. He definitely sticks to a similar theme between his books, regular humans becoming godlike, and they all tend to come to fast and sudden conclusions with opening for him to continue the story should be choose to later. There were a few times of “..blablabl.....” he said “....blablablabla..” she said “...blablabla....” he said “.blablabla.....” she said in row. Which I find annoying. But it didn’t happen the entire book.

Ultimately it’s worth the listen, the story was good and the narrator did well between voices for the characters.

I enjoyed the world and magic system. The charters all had great archs. This was my first Brandon Sanderson book. I understand why he's so popular now. The narrator did a good job of differing the voices for various characters.

Overall, this was very entertaining. At times, I was frustrated with the predictability of the characters, and the silliness and arbitrariness of the magic system and the religion. However, it was a great attempt at a unique world, and I was definitely interested to uncover the whole plot. Ultimately, it's nothing special, but will be enjoyable to those looking for a straightforward & eventful fantasy novel.

This was such a wonderful story but I haven’t read a Brandon Sanderson book that isn’t wonderful!! I think this would be a good Sanderson book to start with if one hasn’t read any of his books.

Honestly it was a slow build. Great story telling and world building. But nothing grabbed me, just... A lot of info for a quick climax to an end.

Wow! What a wild ride! I really enjoyed this story and majority of the character arcs. My only qualm was that Lightsongs storyline was a bit slow going until the end. I wanted more from him. I totally understand the hype behind Brandon Sanderson.

I encourage anyone picking up this book to persevere through the first approximate half of this book, because Sanderson brings it home like a boss. I read this book while waiting for Stormlight #5, and I wish I had read it after Stormlight #2. I’m glad that this book is part of the Cosmere and hope to see more of it’s lore in the future.

This recording had lots of dropped quiet spots in the last four hours which made it frustrating to listen to. I tried reinstalling the app but it didn't work. So the story was good I just missed out of some of the story due to recording issues.

Sanderson does it again. One of his more colorful novels but it absolutely took my breath away.
