About this audiobook
The body of a young woman is found on the streets of East London, in the shadow of the City's gleaming towers. No ID on her, just hard-earned cash. But there is no doubting the ferocity of the attack.
DI Simon Fenchurch takes charge but, as his team tries to identify her and piece together her murder, they're faced with cruel indifference at every turn -- nobody cares about yet another dead prostitute. To Fenchurch, however, she could just as easily be Chloe, his daughter still missing after ten years, whose memory still haunts his days and nights, his burning obsession having killed his marriage.
When a second body is discovered, Fenchurch must peel back the grimy layers shrouding the London sex trade, confronting his own traumatic past while racing to undo a scheme larger, more complex and more evil than anything he could possibly have imagined.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A complex plot set in real locations in and around the City of London. DI Fenchurch is the classic angst-ridden detective, in this instance because of the mysterious disappearance of his young daughter many years ago which broke up his marriage. His daughter's disappearance comes back to haunt him when a young woman's body is found who would be a similiar age to his own daughter. This brutal murder though is only the tip of an iceberg and Fenchurch finds himself battling the so-called "Machine", which his father has been investigating.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5When a body of a teenager is discovered in an abandoned building D.I. Simon Fenchurch and his team investigate. But with no identification and a lack of interest because she was deemed to be a prostitute the case becomes frustrating. Fenchurch is hampered by his past and the disappearance of his eight year old daughter ten years ago. Then another body is discovered. Is there a connection between them.
An interesting well-written police procedural. A good start to the series.
