About this audiobook

If only Lola Dunne had the time—and the courage—she’d write her novel, and maybe even start dating again. When her friend offers the use of her summer home overlooking Lake Haven, Lola sees the chance to focus on herself for a change, and she eagerly accepts.

Engineer Harry Westbrook is waiting for his ship to come in. But it’s not happening soon enough for his girlfriend, who’s left him for good…again. To nurse Harry’s heartache, his pal extends an invite to his lake house in East Beach.

When it turns out that Harry’s and Lola’s friends are a divorcing, not-on-speaking-terms couple sparring over the same house, the strangers find themselves accidental (and reluctant) roommates for the summer. They agree to make the best of it, even posing as a couple to mingle among East Beach’s well-heeled crowd. But the ruse is starting to feel real—and romantic. Are they brave enough to reveal their feelings before the summer nights turn cold?

A familiar trope - unexpected roommates collide in a vacation house each has been promised by someone else. From there, Lola provides delightful entertainment as a neurotic heroine matching wits with a hunky man in steel-toed boots from the upper East Side. A study in contradictions, Harry and Lola "grow up" and evolve into something wonderful. Lola's self-doubt is paralyzing and painful to read, but her upbeat attitude and "I'm okay" face to the world keep you reading.

This was a cute romance even if I have read this storyline a couple times. But I've read it so often because it works and this is a good example. Lola and Harry made a good couple and I enjoyed reading about them. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This was a humorous story, I thoroughly enjoyed it! After being dumped by his girlfriend...who he was beginning to think may be "the one"...because he's working too long hours while he's trying to get his business started. So his friend loans him his summer house. Lola's marriage ended when her husband left her for another woman and now she is trying to write a book. She is offered the loan of a summer house were she could write her novel. Great! Until she arrives there, and it's already occupied. This is where the fun begins. After their first meeting, Lola and Harry decide to make the best out of the situation and become housemates. The couple had a difficult beginning to their unlikely friendship, but they're both hoping to meet certain people and they make plans, Lola, a famous author she idolizes, and Harry, a developer who can help him get contracts for the bridges he wishes to build. Things don't always go as planned though, and their bantering was great, and it wasn't too long before their friendship became something more. There's a wonderful storyline, and lot's of great secondary characters, Mallory was one of my favourites. It's a book you won't want to put down once you've started. I loved it!
