About this audiobook

A Woman’s World Book Club pick.

When Jackson St. James decided that six weeks in Vermont’s Green Mountains would help him get his life together, he didn’t anticipate replacing his craving for whiskey with a craving for his alluring new landlord, Gabby. Now, instead of prioritizing his sobriety and the resolution of the lawsuit threatening his business, he’s making excuses to spend time with the spunky young landscaper whose candor is more than a little addictive.

Gabby Decouteau refuses to let her pill-popping mother and unreliable baby daddy turn her into a cynic, so she doesn’t fight her attraction to her enigmatic new tenant. Although Jackson’s smile rarely reaches his eyes, his generosity and dependability make her willing to overlook his demons. But once she convinces Jackson to give in to temptation, Gabby’s jealous ex threatens to disrupt the life Gabby has built for herself and her son.

With so much at stake, Gabby and Jackson must decide if love is worth the risk.

In the third and final book of the St James series, brother Jackson is in a lot of trouble because of his drinking. He heads to Vermont for counseling and some relaxation, hoping to get a handle on his issues with alcohol. He rents an apartment from Gabby Decouteau, single mom of a cute toddler and landscape business owner. Gabby's had her own issues with dependencies due to her mother's drug addiction. Add in her ex, the town cop, and Jackson and Gabby have a lot to deal with if they want to establish a relationship. While the first book with David and Vivi is still my favorite of this series, this book comes a close second. Both Gabby and Jackson have to face their inner demons and grow up some. It's a good story, realistic (no sugar coating here) that leads to a romance that could last. It's real life where everyone makes mistakes, and most people learn from those errors. Even Noah, the ex and nominal villain, matures and acknowledges some of his wrongs.I enjoyed the series a lot and will definitely read more Jamie Beck.

Jamie Beck has written an excellent emotional romance about family, the emotions that can tear them apart & how to deal with them to move on. Gabby is a single mother that's been let down emotionally for a long time. From her addict mother, her protective father & her sons deadbeat dad, it's all taken a toll on her & her trusting nature. She's decided to make her whole life about her son. So when a handsome stranger tries to help her when she has a flat tire in a storm, she regards him with skepticism & sends him on his way. Jackson was looking for some place to lay low & recover from the humiliation of his family's "intervention". He doesn't have an alcohol problem! He's just tired of everyone leaving him & letting him down. Six weeks in Vermont & a few sessions with a counselor should fix him up. He just didn't count on Gabby & her son Luc. Ms. Beck has done a great job writing a story that feels so much like real life. She's taken a couple & has infused them with enough real life struggles & concerns that this isn't your ordinary romance. Through her words, the reader learns how much an addicts struggles affect those around them. The very human nature that comes out in her writing, makes the characters & their struggles come to life for you. Her descriptive narrative invites the reader to feel the emotions the characters are experiencing & learn from them. Through humor & interactions with Luc, she manages to keep the story from becoming a dark tale. I really enjoyed the journey back to love & trust that Ms. Beck took me on. I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.
