      Tell All the Children Our Story is a fascinating "scrapbook" that culls together a wide variety of archival material (artwork, photos, excerpts, advertisements, posters, etc.) to tell the story of the black experience in America. Well-researched text supports the archival material, and over the course of the book the reader experiences the different phases of black oppression embedded within America's history. The book holds its own as a stand alone read, but can also be used as a source for excerpts and supplemental reading. The writing itself is very engaging, and the book does a fantastic job painting a unified picture with individual voices. The story is told through those who experienced it firsthand (via the primary and second sources), which results in a powerful and moving experience for the reader. The appendix of the book provides additional detail about each document, a selected bibliography, and suggested reading recommendations. I will definitely reference this book in the future.
