About this audiobook
The staff-and a frisky calico kitten named Twinkletoes-adopts Holly and her new dog on arrival. Someone in this friendly town is bad to the bone, though. One of the employees at the inn has been killed in a hit-and-run accident, which is looking anything but accidental. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Murder, She Barked ByKrista DavisWhat it's all about...This is the first book in this lovely series. It’s the beginning of Holly and Trixie and Twinkletoes. Holly finds Trixie and they become friends forever. Holly actually finds Trixie as she heads to her grandmother’s Inn to help her with a problem. Holly is kind of out of work, not happy with her boyfriend Ben and on her way to Wagtail, VA to her Oma and her Oma’s Inn. Holly is met with quite a few surprises when she gets there...including a few murders! Why I wanted to read it...I read the last book in the series and it was so good that I wanted to read the first one! What made me truly enjoy this book...The writing as well as the characters made this book an epic one for me. The Inn, the settings, the food...all come together perfectly in this coziest of mysteries! Why you should read it, too...Readers who love cozy mysteries that are well written and have lots of special cat and dog characters...will love this book!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Wagtail, Virginia is the place to go for cat and dog lovers. The whole is geared for the comfort of these animals. Holly is headed back there, to her grandmother’s inn, not for a restful visit but because she was summoned by an emergency call from a friend. Having just lost her job, she has no immediate plans. But as fate would have it, she is “adopted” by a Jack Russell terrier on the way there and by a calico kitten once at the inn. But an accident that may be an accident has claimed that life of an employee, and murder is in the air. This cozy has almost everything you could want: cats, dogs, murder, and a bit of romance thrown in for good measure.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Krista Davis has a writing style that appeals to me along with a real knack for character development. This is a great kick off to another great series by her. This would have been a 5-star read if it weren't for the far fetched angles to the conclusion of the mystery.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5cute read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Kirsta Davis is a solid cozy mystery writer and this is the first in a new series. Animal themed cozies seem to be all the rage at the moment, with new ones coming from left, right and centre. Luckily, I love animals and as long as they don't talk, they aren't abused and they don't die, I'm willing to give 'em all a read. Murder, She Barked is a pretty good first. Holly is a likeable protagonist whose visiting her Oma - also quite likeable. Independent, capable, smart; no TSTL moments to speak of for either of them. Oma owns an Inn that caters to people and their pets. The author keeps all readers happy by giving Holly both a dog and a kitten, whose name is Twinkletoes, which I think is a perfect name for a cat. Since it's a first book, it's hard to know which characters beyond Holly and Oma are going to stick around, but most everyone is likeable. Of course, we have to have the hateful, spiteful bitch (of the human variety), but luckily we only see her once and I hope in future she remains far away. I don't get the over-the-top animosity authors feel obligated to include; a bit of cattiness here and there - sure, but not the outright nastiness. Personally I think subtle animosity is more powerful. The plot is labyrinthine - there's no other word for it. Ok, convoluted would be another appropriate word. There were no obvious clues or culprits that stood out but when all was said and done I was left a bit agog at the tangled tale. If you're a cozy fan and really like 'em cozy, I'd recommend this book - I didn't put it down thinking "Oh! I can't wait for the next one!" but I did put it down thinking "Yes, I'll definitely read the next one when it's published, I'm interested in knowing more."
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A light and frothy cozy. Holly's life has just taken a sudden turn, but the new direction in Wagtail might be a new life for her. We meet her Oma, several interesting characters, I want to learn more about Aunt Birdie.
