This had to be my favorite in the series so far. I really liked reading about Rosalind aka Mercury and Lynch.

I am so torn. Yes the vampires are bad, but they are good ones too. Yes the humanists have a worthy cause, but some have done bad things too. I do wonder how it will all turn out in the end...

Rosalind then, who is also Mercury, leader of the Humanists. She was resourceful and strong. Lynch was also strong and well he did not have to do much, I just thought he was such a hottie. He is the leader of the Nighthawks and plan to hunt down Mercury. Ohhh drama, sexy drama.

The world is cool, vampires ruling, humans are low class and food. A paranormal London and people are unhappy. But steampunk, eh, just that you give someone a mechanical hand does not steampunk make. Still it works as it is.

There will be romance, danger and cool things to come

2.5 stars rounded up. This plot is a stretch. The hidden identity aspect passed the point of buyability *long* before it resolved, and several other smaller plot points and character choices left me scratching my head as well. It was kind of tiring for me to repeatedly remind myself to just go along with it. But I think I probably care more about stories 'holding water' than the average reader, so it might not matter so much to others.

Well, it is back to the London Steampunk world of Bec McMaster. This series is dark, steamy, and dangerous. The Echelon, which is England's nobility and ruling class, is comprised of vampires. Humans have it rough, providing for the bluebloods. And some humans have machine parts that replace or enhance their flesh bodies. Some humans are getting tired of supporting the Echelon with their blood, sweat, and tears (the former is literal). It has the feeling of the buildup of the French Revolution.Enter one of the leaders of the Humanist faction. Opposing her is the head of the Nighthawks, a police force that enforces Echelon policy. Let the sparks begin!I'd advise starting this series with the first book if you want to read sexy steampunk. And yes, I have the next book in the series to read in the future.

Jasper Lynch, Nighthawk, leader of the blue blood's police force. Rosalind, Mercury, leader of an anti-blue blood organization. All the Nighthawk has wanted for so long was to arrest Mercury. What he didn't expect was that Mercury would be a woman and that she'd aggressively kiss him. Nor did he expect how much he'd enjoy it.

For her part, Mercury was surprised by her enjoyment, too. Like the Nighthawk, she insists this won't interfere with her plans. In this case, she's looking for her brother, missing since he was involved in an attack on the blue bloods planned by rogue elements of her group. If anyone has the answers she wants, it's Jasper Lynch. Mercury can't ask him, but maybe, Mrs. Rosa Marberry, the persona she adopts to work with Lynch, can.

It's war and sexual attraction between Nighthawk and Mercury, and it's teasing friendship and love between Jasper and Rosa. What will it be when all the masks are off?

This book appealed to me more than the previous ones. Jasper and Rosa are adults and they respect each other as adults, in areas of work and sex. They banter, they play, and they work well together. It's obvious that no matter what mask they're wearing, they enjoy each other's company. It's fun and fun to read.

Rosalind Fairchild, aka Mercury, the leader of the humanist opposition, infiltrates the Nighthawks (the Echelon’s law enforcement arm) by posing as their commander’s new secretary in order to discover the whereabout of her younger brother. Sir Jasper Lynch, head of the Nighthawks, has suffered both discrimination and betrayal, but finds it impossible to resist the charms of the indomitable Mrs. Marberry despite his wariness and lack of trust.

Once again, McMaster provides a richly detailed and captivating dystopian backdrop to the rather simple tale of a woman struggling to fight her growing feelings for a man she considers her enemy. Rosalind and Jasper are a perfect match. Despite the traumas of their pasts, they have both grown into strong and courageous people who allow nothing to stand in the way of their goals. The question is whether their stated aims are the right ones?

Although the keeping secrets trope usually irritates me no end, it is done very well here mainly due to the fact that the conflict does not stem from a lack of communication, but from Rosalind’s real need to keep her identity hidden. Moreover, the secret ultimately enhances the tension in the romance and there are some truly fantastic scenes between the lovers.

The world of the ruling Echelon and the rebel Humanists is dark, gritty and disturbing, and as the ongoing struggle between the factions moves in a new direction it will be interesting to see how things develop.

All in all, a well-written, exciting, and sexy read. Recommended for fans of steampunk and the enemies-to-lovers theme.

This is the 3rd book in the London Steampunk series by McMaster. This was by far the best book in this series so far. This series is definitely more romance than steampunk, but we do get a lot more steampunk elements in this book than in previous ones and the main story makes a lot of progress as well.Rosalind Fairchild, also known as Mercury (the leader of the human resistance), is determined to find out what became of her brother and to destroy the Echelon. Her quest to find her brother Jeremy and to destroy the Echelon puts her on a dangerous path. She has decided to apply for the position of secretary to Jasper Lynch, leader of the deadly Nighthawk guard. Rosa hopes to uncover secrets that will both lead to the rescue of her human brother and the downfall of the Echelon. However she didn’t account for Jasper himself. Jasper is very different from the rest of the Echelon and has an agenda of his own. Not mention their mutual attraction to each other (whether Rose is posing as a secretary or as the deadly Mercury) is very distracting.Members of the Echelon are going crazy and killing everyone in their households. Jasper suspects it is being caused by the human resistance and is determined to solve the mystery before more innocents die. Rosa, posing as his secretary, gets drug deep into the mystery as well.I love the character of Rosa/Mercury. Rose was trained to be a deadly assassin, but when things went horribly wrong, she turned to lead the human resistance against the Echelon. Rosa is tough, deadly, and always in control of those she manipulates. She is also incredibly loyal to those she loves and determined to turn her deadly abilities to a force for good for humanity. We meet her in the last London Steampunk book and I was thrilled to hear this third book would be about her.Jasper Lynch doesn’t love the Echelon, but he does take his job very seriously and does his best to protect both the Echelon and humans alike. He is strong, tough, noble, and emotionless. Honestly he’s a bit of a machine when it comes to his work. He is sorely overworked as well. When he runs into Mercury he finds her strangely engaging and enraging. Then there is his new secretary, she is incredibly competent, a little bit wicked, and not one bit scared of him (he’s had a problem with previous secretaries fearing him). The tension between Lynch and Rosa is amazing and incredibly well done. This is a wonderful case where the two characters together are better and stronger people than they are apart. The romance does develop fairly quickly, however it’s a case where both character show mutual respect for each other and is something I love to see in a romance. The fact that Lynch thought he was falling in love with two different women (Mercury and Rose) added an interesting twist to the story as well. The plot is well done. The smaller plot of who/how the members of the Echelon are being poisoned is resolved nicely. The larger plot involving the humanist rebels and the Echelon also makes some very nice progress. As with previous books this is more of a historical fantasy/paranormal book with a lot of romance. Although I felt that this book was better balanced than previous books and had a great story and world-building as well as romance. There is a lot about the mechs in this book (people who are part mechanical) and because of that there were more steampunk elements. Rosa herself is part mech. Overall this was the best book in this series so far. This is definitely still a romance heavy series, but I felt like the romance was better balanced with a well done plot and some world-building in this book than in previous books in the series. I loved the characters in this book, they were so much fun to read about and had excellent chemistry. This series is highly recommended to those who love romance heavy paranormal/steampunk reads. I still do enjoy the Iron Seas series by Meljean Brook more, but this London Steampunk series is definitely on par with the Darkest London series by Kristen Callihan.

Mortal enemies, the Captain of the Nighthawks and the deadly rebel leader known only as Mercury have no future. But on, over and under the steamy London streets, the two play a cat and mouse game of attraction and betrayal. Revenge may be sweet, but finding love may kill them both.MacMaster brings the heat, and the suspense, holding the HEA just out of reach until the very last page. Made for some very yawny next days when I stayed up far too let just to see what was going to happen next.

Reviewed by: Rabid ReadsI thoroughly enjoyed My Lady Quicksilver as a stand-alone novel but it didn’t really feel like it belonged with the rest of Bec McMaster’s London Steampunk series. The characters from the previous books are scarcely referenced, the tone is more Historical than it is Steampunk and the writing wasn’t quite as solid. Other than a few small plot threads, the main story arc was practically absent which made this installment feel somewhat unecessary. Lynch and Rosalind’s tale is one that deserved to be told but I think My Lady Quicksilver would have made a better novella than it did a full-length novel. It took me a couple of chapters to get my bearings in London Steampunk; even though the scenery hasn’t changed, the characters have. Everything revolves around hierarchy in this universe, so new protagonists mean new tiers. In this book, McMaster takes readers inside the Nighthawk ranks and also gives us a more in depth look at the inner workings of the underground Humanists movement. I typically expect more action than world-building in a third installment but this novel was the opposite and as a result, I had to resist skimming some of the overly descriptive sections. I hate to say this but a lot of this novel felt like filler. This book has an interesting twist on the classic love triangle because Lynch falls for the same women twice which made his feelings of guilt over kissing another woman rather comical. Rosalind’s jealously regarding Jasper cheating on her with, well her, was equally chuckle-worthy. There are several sides to every character but I especially liked how McMaster took this literally with her female heroine’s multiple identities. The chemistry between Lynch and Rosalind is magnetic. I loved that he was first attracted to her mysterious Mercury persona but fell for her on a deeper level as he got to know her as his secretary. I enjoyed their witty dialogue exchanges in the Nighthawks’ offices and I had to stifle a laugh when Fairchild broke into his loft to clean because it sounds like something I would do! The build-up to their horizontal dance was excruciatingly (and deliciously) long but when they finally do the deed, the sparks more than make-up for the extended sexual torture. My Lady Quicksilver was my least favourite installment to date but that being said, this story is still far superior to your average Paranormal Romance thanks to McMaster’s knack for writing love stories and her playful sense of humour. I can’t wait to see where this series goes from here.
