What an exciting start to a new soon-to-be-favorite series. You know I love small town stories and characters.Add in a cozy mystery (or several) and I am hooked.Robbie Jordan is one strong woman. Her life is about to chance BIGTIME on many levels. She recently lost her mother, is dealing with those emotions, and is trying to make her mother proud by living her own life and following her passions.Robbie remodeled a century old building to turn it into a diner and vintage cookware store. She has plans for also add a bed and breakfast upstairs, but those plans were thwarted by the town's permit office, or at least by one permit clerk. When that person turns up dead, and evidence at the scene makes robbie a "person of interest," will that bring her dream to a sudden smash ending? What it does do is open up a lot of questions regarding ronnie's own history and connections to her hew home town.I liked that this story developed in layers. We get to meet interesting charcters that develop also throughout the book. They are not one sided or shallow.Everyone has a past. There is a very dangerous and exciting conclusion, some romantic electrity, and delicious recipes at the end. PLUS a sneak peek at future complications.I can hardly wait to return.I did receive this book in wexchange for an honest opinion.

I like it when the main character is the one speaking. Makes it more personal. All the little details too. Keeps you guessing. Hope she gets to meet her dad.

Robbie Jordan, chef and carpenter, has struggled to open her new country store/café, Pans ‘n’ Pancakes in South Lick, Indiana. One of the people whom she struggled with was Stella Rogers, a mayoral assistant, who was a royal pain about issuing permits. But even Robbie didn’t wish her dead – but she is, murdered. Fearing it will be a taint on her new business, Robbie is eager for police to figure out who murdered Stella. In the process, Robbie’s research turns up information about her mother’s past – info that has ramifications for Robbie today. Flipped for Murder has all the usual elements of a cozy mystery. Youngish woman returns home after a disastrous marriage or love affair, gets a bequest and/or wins a lottery to help her fashion a new life, falls for a new man, and opens a new business or takes on a new job out of her comfort zone. There are the requisite quirky secondary characters, and a fairly inept police department.Although Flipped for Murder has an interesting plot, it was the writing that was a stumbling block to me. There was too much of it. Too much detail about what everyone is wearing, and way too much detail about running a café. It was OK, but just OK.

Robbie opens a country store/restaurant. She's having lot of problems getting it open with the mayor's aide, Stella, making it more difficult. When Stella is found murdered, the sheriff looks at Robbie. She did not do it and lets the sheriff know information she discovers from the present as well as the past. She comes into the restaurant one morning and finds a mess that will get her shut down if the health department knows of it. Who did it? Is it connected to Stella as so much of the past is? Will Robbie figure out the murderer or will she be the next victim?I liked this book. It is a good set-up for the series. I liked the characters, some more than others. Robbie is a strong woman who handles the setbacks in her restaurant and overcomes them as well as some of the people in town. The story was believable. I am no detective. I did not figure out who iw was. Good thing Robbie did as well as the explanation at the end. Looking forward to reading the next book.

Moving to South Lick, Indiana, Robbie opens a pancake house. With skills as a carpenter as well as a cook, she seemed headed for success in her new endeavor. Of course, that was before becoming a person of interest in the murder of a not-so-well-liked mayor’s assistant. Fortunately for Robbie, she isn’t the only person who had problems with the newly departed. Unfortunately for Robbie, more bad things are in store for her. The first in the series, this mystery holds much promise. If the rest of the books are as good as this one, then I have found a new series to binge on and enjoy.

This is the first book in the new "Country Store Mystery" series. I have had this one on my tablet for awhile and now that I have read it, I wish I had gotten to it sooner. I will definitely be checking out the rest in this series. A 4.5 star read for me. In Flipped for Murder, Robbie Jordan has recently moved back to her hometown of South Lick Indiana and opened a quaint restaurant and cookware shop called Pans 'n Pancakes. Her mother had recently died in California and her marriage to a cheating man had fallen apart. Being a chef, Robbie's breakfast and lunch cafe quickly began to draw customers from the other cafes. As Robbie begins to feel like her business is about to take off, there is a murder and it looks like someone is trying to frame her. She is a suspect, but certainly not the only one. As the mystery unravels, we find out that Stella, the victim, had a large number of enemies. Robbie wants to clear her name as even being a suspect, has a detrimental effect on her business.

The plot of this new mystery by Maddie Day aka Edith Maxwell, moves quickly and had me reading with interest. Her characters are wonderful albeit a little quirky, it is a small mid-western town. Robbie and her employee Danna, are a great pair. They work hard, and play harder. Robbie has a love interest in Jim, but what is going to happen with Abe? There is a side mystery to the main one regarding Robbie's personal history. As she investigates the murder, she gets some information that might just lead her to her father, whom she has never met or even knew his name. This element gave Robbie a much more complex personality as we got glimpses of her childhood. The mystery and suspense continues to build until the very satisfying conclusion. I will say that I had figured out the murderer, but it was very interesting to see Robbie follow the clues to the end. A great read for any cozy mystery lover.

Roberta "Robbie" Jordan has realized her dream of opening a restaurant and country store, Pans 'N Pancakes, in the small town of South Lick, Indiana. Opening day proves successful, but shortly thereafter Stella Rogers, Mayoral Assistant, is found dead with one of Robbie's biscuits shoved in her mouth. To make matters worse Robbie is a person of interest in the murder. Since Stella was intent on her son Roy Rogers taking over the store instead of Robbie, she delayed the permitting process making it difficult for Robbie to make the necessary renovations in time to include B&B rooms over her new restaurant. Admittedly, Robbie was perturbed by this, but local police officer Buck Bird perceives it as a motive for murder. Robbie's eager to clear her name, and in the process she discovers that quite a number of folks had more plausible reasons to want Stella dead.I really enjoyed this cozy mystery for several reasons. I liked reading about the main character's life; her love interests, relatives, long-lost father and the challenges she faced operating a new restaurant. Her daily life in and of itself was interesting and held my attention. I also appreciated that there were enough characters to suspect as guilty, but not so many that you would be hard-pressed to remember all of them. Also, the murderer was not someone far-fetched, enabling the reader to possibly figure out who really killed Stella Rogers.I would definitely read book two in the series, Grilled For Murder, because I like Maddie Day's writing style. Also, I'm curious about a few loose ends relating to Robbie's life, as well as some of the secondary characters' lives that I presume will be addressed in the next book in the series. Overall, a very satisfying read. Recommended.

Meet Robbie Jordan. Her mother left her small town of South Lick, Indiana before Robbie was born and moved to California. And after her mother's death, Robbie decided to move back to Indiana, open a country store and start a new life. The book opens at the same time when the store opens - grand opening for breakfast (and then lunch) with no personnel to speak of and with the best food in town. And then someone dies and Robbie ends up being the main suspect. The answer to the mystery ends up being tied to old secrets, a lost father, a new love and a lot of delicious food. Add the owner of another country store in a bigger town , a mayor that thinks that the world turns around her and a slightly crazy young man that had just lost his mother. It is a cozy mystery - everything gets better at the end of course - the bad guys get caught, the good ones end up with what they want, there is even a love triangle. It is a good start of another series of recipes and calm mystery - there are a lot of them around and they are a nice palate cleaner between more gruesome books.

Flipped for Murder by Maddie Day is the first book in the new Country Store Mystery series. It is opening day for Pans ‘N Pancakes in South Lick, Indiana. It is a restaurant that sells breakfast and lunch as well as having a country store that sells vintage kitchenware. Roberta “Robbie” Jordan is excited to finally have her dream become a reality. Robbie had been working for the Nashville Inn for the last three years (since moving to Indiana from California). Stella Rogers, assistant to the mayor, gave her a hard time in obtaining the necessary permits to open Pans ‘N Pancakes (her son wanted the same location). Stella has held the position in the mayor’s office since she was in her twenties (which means she knows a lot of secrets). Her opening day is a success. When Robbie comes back from a date with Jim Shermer, Buck Bird is waiting for her. Buck is second in command at the police department. Stella Rogers was found dead in her home with one of Robbie’s cheese biscuits stuffed in her mouth (Stella purchased extra biscuits to take home). Robbie is considered a person of interest. Someone does not want Robbie to succeed in her new venture. Robbie wants to stay out of jail so she starts looking into Stella’s life to see who wanted her dead. Turns out that Stella had made a lot of enemies. Robbie uses her crossword puzzle skills to figure out who killed Stella Rogers and is trying to frame her for the crime. After twenty-seven years Robbie finds out the identity of her biological father. Her mother never told her about him and now she is deceased. Will Robbie be able to connect with him? There is also an adorable little kitten named Birdy (his meows sound like cheeps). I found Flipped for Murder to be a good cozy mystery. I enjoyed the characters (and thankfully, there are not too many and they are not too quirky), the town of South Lick (a typical small town), and the mystery (it is a medium level mystery). The author provided some great clues the lead the reader to the killer (she also provided some information that could lead the reader down the wrong path). I did like the side mystery of Robbie trying to find out information about her father. It gives the reader more insight into Robbie. I give Flipped for Murder 4 out of 5 stars. I look forward to the next book in the Country Store Mystery series. I would like to see the characters fleshed out a little more (we did not get many details on Robbie’s past and really no details on Jim Shermer) and a more complicated mystery (I have only been stumped once this year). There are some nice recipes at the end of the novel (cheese biscuits included) and a preview of the next book in the series. If you like to read cozy mysteries, you will love reading Flipped for Murder!I received a complimentary copy of Flipped for Murder from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
