About this audiobook
After high school, Zoey is hired by a special government agency, the Department of Molecular Genetics (DMG), where she meets the other reason to remain: Daniel, her co-worker. The man she loves.
But there is something unique about Zoey. She can see fae. Because of this, the DMG hires her to work as a Collector: catching, researching, testing, and using the fae to save human lives. The work never registers on her sympathy radar. She was raised to think of fae as beasts that feed on humans and want to destroy them.
When devastation hits Seattle, Zoey's whole world is turned upside down. The electric storm connects her to a ruthless fae, a Wanderer named Ryker, whose dealings expose them to even more trouble and danger. They embark on a journey, running and hiding from both the government and fae, both of which threaten their lives and those they love.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Good book, I recommend (:. On to part 2 !!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked this for the most part. Some of the dialog was corny but the story over all was good. But the narrator. It sounded like Siri was reading and that lessened the experience for me. She did well with the sprite but that was it. There was no emotion and very mono toned.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book, I was so happily surprised that some of the repetitiveness from the darkness series towards the end was not in this first book. This book had me completely entertained from start to finish. I found so many parts of it so interesting especially since I read the darkness series first then to see how some of the things that happened in that series is affecting things in this series. I enjoyed the characters so much Zoey is a really tough, independent woman, I like her alot, she wasn’t whiny. Then there is Ryker, of course he is another sexy, strong Faye and I love Sprig he brings all of the comic relief. They got into some tough situations and I kept thinking I was going to know what was going to happen just based off past books and what typically happens but Stacey surprised me in a good way. I’m so excited to start the next book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I like the story and the narrator too which is hard to come by.. the main characters are lively, funny and stubborn. I do keep waiting for more romance though;( unfortunately there isn’t any at all in this first book so I’m hoping it’s building for the 2nd.. fingers crossed!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5OhMgee. This book is so freaking good. I was hooked from start to finish. I absolutely love Zoey and Ryker too. Sprite had me cracking up. And ahh that ending!!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Let me just start out that I had completely forgotten I had this book in my kindle to read for a release. I got an email reminding me that the release day was coming up, and so I immediately picked it up and started reading. I had never read any of Stacey Marie Brown's books before, so I didn't know what to expect from this book. I started out liking it, but before I knew it, I was turning page after page, eager to find out what happened next. It's really hard to put down! It even had me crying 98 pages into the book!
Zoey Daniels works for DMG, a government agency that collects fae and experiments on them to try and find cures for disabilities...or so she believes. On a patrol with her partner (and the man she loves), Daniel, things go to hell in a hand basket. A fae sets off an electric storm that makes Seattle a disaster zone. In one night, Zoey loses Daniel and her foster sister, Lexie, and somehow is connected to a ruthless fae, Ryker. They begin a journey to try and get Ryker's power back to him, which had been transferred to her during the electrical storm.
I loved Zoey and Ryker's relationship. They started off hating each other (neither would mind seeing the other dead), both dealing with prejudices that they had dealt with for years, as well as getting over the loss of the ones they loved just that day. Ryker is trying to keep Zoey alive because she has his fae powers stored in her body somehow; Zoey is stuck with Ryker because he can find her no matter where she is. But as their time together goes on, they begin to respect and care for each other.
There is action, a talking monkey, a badass chick, a Viking fae (who is extremely hot), and romance. I could not put this down! It quickly became a book that I loved, and now I can't wait for the second book to come out because I REALLY need to know what happens next! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Collector, Zoey Daniels’, life shifts after Seattle is destroyed by an electrical storm, and she becomes tied to a Fae Wanderer named Ryker. City in Embers is a fast-paced and imaginative book that I could not put down.Zoey is a wonderful heroine. Raised in foster homes, she had a tough life. She does what she has to in order to persevere. She is a survivor. She is often underestimated, which goes to her advantage. My heart went out to her. She is an easy character to cheer for.I enjoyed getting to know Ryker. He is the ultimate alpha male. He is strong both physically and mentally. He is a complex character that we discover a lot about during the story. The dynamics between Zoey and Ryker throughout the novel was interesting. They start out as enemies and due to circumstances, they need to work together. They end up having a lot in common despite one being human and the other Fae.I love Sprig. He adds a lot of humor to the story. I could totally picture the cute little monkey sprite. He seems like an adorable creature that would be great to snuggle with. The plot was incredible. It takes place when The Electrical Current Storm from Darkness of Light (Darkness, #1) hits Seattle. I appreciated reading about what the people of Seattle had experienced as a result of that storm. The occurrence was a clever spin off into this series. City in Embers is well-written and full of unexpected twist. I look forward to the next book in the series, The Barrier Between.Complimentary copy provided by author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

After high school, she is hired by DMG (Department of Molecular Genetics. DMG discovers a hidden talent in Zoey. She can see Fae. Something very strange happens to Zoey and her life changes. She also meets Ryker and finds out the truth. Their journey will change everything. This book had a lot of twists and turns. I did not expect what happened to Zoey. This book had strong characters. Also some humorous moments courtesy of Sprite. The changing relationship between Ryker and Zoey was believable. (I hate in when characters "instantly' fall in love at first sight without getting to know each othe
