About this audiobook
When superstar athlete Jim Thorpe and football legend Pop Warner met in 1904 at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania, they forged one of the winningest teams in American football history. Called "the team that invented football," they took on the best opponents of their day, defeating much more privileged schools such as Harvard and the Army in a series of breathtakingly close calls, genius plays, and bone-crushing hard work.
But this is not just an underdog story. It's an unflinching look at the persecution of Native Americans and its intersection with the beginning of one of the most beloved―and exploitative―pastimes in America, expertly told by nonfiction powerhouse Steve Sheinkin.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The real truth is reflected by the injustices imposed on all Redskin peoples of this country, of whom I am a part of... as a real native American. This land, before the whites came and took everything away from us, by their lies, deceit and force was so cherished, sacred and unspoiled. Jim Thorpe still stands as the Greatest American Athlete of the 20th Century. His prowess and accomplishments on the track, diamond, & gridiron are always so awe inspiring and his life, in retrospect, depicts the ongoing tragedy compelled upon most all who are of the same blood of original native Americans. I will forever honor Jim Thorpe for who he was and what he stood for in his lifetime. My ancestors suffered greatly and so many died, at the cruel and heartless hand of Andrew Jackson, on the infamous Trail of Tears. My Alabama Cherokee roots are deep and all memories go into eternity. We as a united people are still the most oppressed in all recorded history. Over 100 million Natives of North America were killed for the lands since 1492. Where is the justice and who will ever avenge our blood? Only Almighty God of Heaven & Earth will judge every transgression committed in hate, greed, and with all malice. Lord, You alone Judge them all...in Righteousness & in Truth.
