1924 - Der Engländer William Campbell erbt die Plantage eines ihm völlig unbekannten Verwandten in New Orleans. Traumatisiert von den Wirren des großen Krieges, der in Europa tobte, nimmt er diese Erbschaft mit Freuden an, um ein neues Leben zu beginnen. Seine Euphorie über das unerwartete Erbe und den damit verbundenen Reichtum wird jedoch schnell getrübt, als es auf der Plantage zu merkwürdigen Todesfällen kommt und William beinahe selbst Opfer eines Anschlages wird. Wer zieht im Hintergrund die Fäden? Wurde auch sein Erbonkel Opfer eines Anschlages? Und was hat es mit den seltsamen nächtlichen Ritualen der Plantagenarbeiter auf sich? Als William den Geschehnissen auf die Spur kommt, muss er feststellen, dass sein Gegner bereits ein tödliches Schicksal für ihn bereit hält...
