- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent again! The things that go on! Narrator not as good as CM but alright once you get used to him. Brook's accent is not great, and couldn't get on with it. Minor issues though the story is fast paced and you don't know which way the plot will turn and who will get killed, the good guys or the baddies! Keeps you guessing.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Lots of action and I like the history that I learn .
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Much of listening to audiobooks is the narrator. When it is a series, characters grow as it progresses. While I enjoy the timbre of Mr. Hawkins voice, I’m not a fan of Brooke’s voice changing from a British accent to an American accent when speaking to her captor.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5There’s some sort of continuing story but literally no-one cares and you can read these books in any order. In this one Daniel Craig’s ex-girlfriend is visiting Craggy Island when she’s stolen by the baddie. There’s a handy content-guide graphic on the back which promises terror, thrills, conspiracy, and drama. This is accurate. There’s also some melodrama which Mariani delivers with a massive wink to the reader. This is far from being the best of the Ben Hope books as the story in this one relies too much on a series of coincidences, but I literally didn’t care at the time as it’s fast paced and unpretentious. A paperback thriller that knows what it is.

Book Six in the Ben Hope series.
Yet again Mariani provides us with another fast-paced thriller. As a specialist in recovering kidnapped people, the tables are turned on Hope when he has to try to locate Dr Marcel Brooke with whom he has had an on-off relationship. She is abducted under unusual circumstances, but her captor has a particular reason for wanting to acquire her for himself. The legacy referred to is connected with the Armada in that something very important is discovered on a wrecked Armada ship off the coast of Ireland.
The villain of the peace in this adventure is a former Colombian drug dealer with pretensions not only to great wealth, but also to ennobling himself through the discovery in the wreck. With his history he does, of course, have some particularly unpleasant sidekicks, but is not unhappy to perform acts of violence himself.
This could be the last of the Ben Hope series if the course of action described at the end of the book actually comes about! A ripping read – one that I found hard to put down, and that is the first time I have said that in a couple of months.
