I have been listening to Beethoven's music for 30 years, studying his music in depth for 15 years. Based my appreciation of the Charles Dickens and William Shakespeare first person spoken "histories"* from this series (*some liberties are taken, as explained at the end of each "book"), I was highly anticipating this piece on Beethoven.

Alas, the narrator's voice was too thick in accent-- trying to get Beethoven's accent correct, it sounded like mumbling; as hard as I tried I couldn't make it past four minutes.

In conclusion, this series is hit or miss (for me, at least). Dickens and Shakespeare were delightful, but I fell asleep during the rather lackluster narration of Mark Twain. This series reminds me of LibriVox recordings: some narrators are magnificent, others miss the mark.

I'm off to listen to the oral history of J.S. Bach. Fingers crossed!

(My native tongue is American English: Tri- State area. My point-- someone from Eastern Europe may have no difficulty at all understanding this narrator's "accent".)

Kudos to the author for creating this series. Even though some liberties are taken to maintain the storytelling aspect, when they're good, they're a wonderful short respite from full audio books.
