About this audiobook

Filled with all of Jenny Han's "favorite things", a romantic new novel from the author of The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. This story of hope, chance, and change is one Morgan Matson calls "something wonderful" and Stephanie Perkins says "is rich with the intensity of real love."

Alice doesn't believe in luck-at least, not the good kind. But she does believe in love, and for some time now, she's been pining for her best friend, Teddy. On his eighteenth birthday-just when it seems they might be on the brink of something-she buys him a lottery ticket on a lark. To their astonishment, he wins $140 million, and in an instant, everything changes.

At first, it seems like a dream come true, especially since the two of them are no strangers to misfortune. As a kid, Alice won the worst kind of lottery possible when her parents died just over a year apart from each other. And Teddy's father abandoned his family not long after that, leaving them to grapple with his gambling debts. Through it all, Teddy and Alice have leaned on each other. But now, as they negotiate the ripple effects of Teddy's newfound wealth, a gulf opens between them. And soon, the money starts to feel like more of a curse than a windfall.

As they try to find their way back to each other, Alice learns more about herself than she ever could have imagined . . . and about the unexpected ways in which luck and love sometimes intersect.

Praise for Windfall:
"Windfall is about all of my favorite things-a girl's first big love, her first big loss, and-her first big luck."
-Jenny Han, New York Times bestselling author of To All the Boys I've Loved Before

"Windfall is perfectly named; reading it, I felt like I had suddenly found something wonderful. It's a story about love, and luck, and the way our lives can change in an instant. I laughed and cried and bought a lottery ticket the very next day."
-Morgan Matson, New York Times bestselling author of The Unexpected Everything

"Windfall is rich with the intensity of real love- in all its heartache and hope."
- Stephanie Perkins, New York Times bestselling author of Isla and the Happily Ever After

** spoiler alert ** It’s well past the 24 hour mark since I’ve last slept so I’m following in the steps of some other reviewers and turning this into a pros and cons list to help sort out whatever managed to stick in my very tired brain. ok, here we go:

    PROS:
    1. The main character, Alice, who was surprisingly really easy to love. I find that I don’t connect to a lot of the female protagonists in YA contemporary, but she was different. Selfless, thoughtful, and brilliant. I found myself caring about and wanting to protect her.
    2. Leo + his and Alice’s parents, who were a shining example of love and family.
    3. LAUREN FREAKING GRAHAM apparently wants to turn this into a movie!!! This has absolutely nothing to do with my rating, I just really love her and needed to belt that out somewhere. Figured this was the place.
    4. Team Sawyer anyone?
    5. I know I already mentioned my love for her, but I’m so damn glad my baby Alice found her voice. That she was able to take a step back and realize that it’s okay to find yourself, your purpose. And that even though it was hard and will continue to be a struggle in the absence of her parents, they would want her to simply be happy.

    CONS:
    1. TEDDY/his relationship with Alice - I know he redeemed himself in the end and I appreciate the fact that he wasn’t the classic ‘prince charming’ that the girl always falls for. He was flawed, which I valued a lot. But I can’t get past how naive and selfish his character was for such a HUGE chunk of the book. And towards the end, even after Teddy admits to his faults and realizing he needed to reevaluate himself so he could be better for her, I can’t get over how abusive their friendship came across at times. Needless to say, this was the first book off the top of my head where I wasn’t rooting for the obvious couple to end up together.
    2. Maybe I’m alone in this, but I felt like Windfall was waaayy longer than it needed to be. I’ll agree that a lot of it was necessary to piece together the message but I just felt like it dragged out at times. If it weren’t for my impending due date at the library, it likely would have taken me a hot minute just to finish it because I grew kind of bored at times.
    3. The last story that I read centered around a main girl who lost her mother to cancer and relocated to Chicago from California. This book focused on someone who also lost a parent to cancer and moved from California to Chicago. The publication dates I believe were a year apart but still, why are they similar that way? Ugh.

Side note:I may add to this more later after I’ve slept on it. For now though, my rating stands at about a 3.25 tops.
