Eleanor Oliphant has learned how to survive – but not how to live

Eleanor Oliphant leads a simple life. She wears the same clothes to work every day, eats the same meal deal for lunch every day and buys the same two bottles of vodka to drink every weekend.

Eleanor Oliphant is happy. Nothing is missing from her carefully timetabled life. Except, sometimes, everything.

One simple act of kindness is about to shatter the walls Eleanor has built around herself. Now she must learn how to navigate the world that everyone else seems to take for granted – while searching for the courage to face the dark corners she’s avoided all her life.

Change can be good. Change can be bad. But surely any change is better than… fine?

The book actually made me cry - an amazing story of pain and healing. One of the best I have ever read.

I loved this book, as a victim of childhood trauma it really resonated with me. Eleanor is quirky, lovable and flawed (but aren’t we all). I devoured this book in 2 days and didn’t want it to end. She felt like one of the family by the end of the book and I want to know more.

Eleanor Oliphant is at the same time a frustrating and lovable character. Her evolution during the course of the novel is admirable, and her cast of characters, especially Raymond, are admirable and are crucial to that evolution. I don’t read a lot of fiction, but I’m glad I read this novel. I highly recommend it. If you like a great story that is well written, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine is well worth the read.

Eleanor Oliphant is completely wonderful.Thank you to Penguin First to Reads for the opportunity to read this book in advance.I'm giving this book five stars, not because I love Eleanor so much, but because I love what the author did with the story. She gave us an anti-hero, someone who isn't (at the start) very nice, she isn't very sociable and to be honest, it was hard to truly root for her until about mid-way through. Gail Honeyman didn't force a 'woe is me, will I ever find someone who loves me?' trope down my throat. You'll understand what I mean when you read it. You go in expecting one thing; you come out at the end completely relieved you didn't get what you expected. It was almost immediately clear to me that Eleanor suffers from Asperger's, through no fault of her own, of course, and so it was hard to really be upset with her for her curt responses and general lack of awareness of social boundaries and what is appropriate/inappropriate to say to others.Eleanor has suffered through so much tragedy and horrifying sadness. I'll reveal nothing of it here because I'd much rather you read it and experience it firsthand for yourself. The author gave the reader the opposite of a love story, as that would be truly unfitting of Eleanor's character. [ It is no surprise the role that Raymond plays in the story, it's pretty much instantly understood the moment he appears. But this is where the author won me over completely: he's not a tool to sweep Eleanor off her feet and promise her a life of carefree happiness and romance. Maybe somewhere far, far in the future, but for now, he's her saviour in a different sense. He's a friend. Eleanor's first true friend. That's so much more important than being a lover. (hide spoiler)]Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine, and I, the reader, am completely thrilled that I got to read and experience this novel. It is fresh, it’s fun, it’s sad, it’s whimsical, it’s funny, it’s heartbreaking, it’s wonderful.

Without a doubt Eleanor Oliphant is a character that grows on you. Her quirk as she tells her story is amusing, right paced and implicitly funny. As she gets used to living a normal life with her unique point of view, the story is set to be gripping and fun.

At times very funny. At times a bit irritating. But that’s the character of Eleanor! Overall quite an enjoyable book even though at times you want to take Eleanor by the shoulders and give her a good shake. Greatest criticism is that it is sometimes overly soppy. But I also laughed out loud so that’s a big plus.

The book accurately describes loneliness, isolation, and why people who we deem weird or misfit, are made the way they are. Also, oh my god, Cathleen McCarron's narration blew my mind.
I can't stress enough how much I loved this book.

Most beautiful book i have ‘read’ in a LONG time. Also love the narrator’s gentle Scottish lilt. I fell in love with Elinor and the way she sees the world. I didn’t want the book to end. I can’t recommend it enough.

Mesmerising! It’s an amazing book. For saying it is set around a horrific event , it managed to have me roaring with laughter on and off throughout. I think we all see and feel the world in an slightly Elenor Oliphant way occasionally!

The mix between dry humour and darkness makes this book great. You smile and can’t help to somewhat fall in love with Eleanor, her strange ways explained as the book goes on. Ultimately it is uplifting and refreshing, and the narrator is doing an absolutely fantastic job. Truly enjoyed the story and narration.
