About this audiobook

The Ship fled a dying Earth to save the human race.

Launched as the last gasp of humanity, the Ship set out to preserve the species by seeding the universe with one billion colonists. Generations of Crew, trained to be either Flight or Marines, have spent 5,000 years protecting the Ship and its civilian cargo from the constant threat of alien violence.

Fifteen-year-old Zax has always had trouble fitting in with the other cadets, but he's finally on the cusp of attaining his dream and gaining entrance to the Pilot Academy. Catching the eye of the Flight Boss and winning him as a mentor should guarantee Zax a top spot, unless the shocking discovery he makes along the way destroys not only his career, but also the Ship itself.

Landfall audiobook version. This young adult science fiction story. Earth has been doom by an ecological crisis and its survivors climb into an asteroid in an attempt to find and colonize other planets. I found this idea interesting. WE see life in the asteroid through the eyes of Zack a young cadet in line to become a fighter pilot for the defense of the spacefaring colony ship. All the cadets battle for status via points systems. The competition is intense and the penalty of being on the bottom is catastrophic The inhabitants of the ship both crew and colonists believe they are the only humans alive. This belief gets challenged when an unknown spacecraft appears. The mystery surrounding this spacecraft and its occupants is the heart of this story.>

While this isn't a perfect book. It is a good one. I found the society Aubin creates scary. It is a facist state that seems to work. Watching it gradually come apart demonstrates Aubin's writing ability.
