About this audiobook

In this gripping, atmospheric family drama, a young woman investigates the forty-year-old murder that inspired her mother’s bestselling novel, and uncovers devastating truths—and dangerous lies.

Reformed party girl Meg Ashley leads a life of privilege, thanks to a bestselling horror novel her mother wrote decades ago. But Meg knows that the glow of their very public life hides a darker reality of lies, manipulation, and the heartbreak of her own solitary childhood. Desperate to break free of her mother, Meg accepts a proposal to write a scandalous, tell-all memoir.

Digging into the past—and her mother’s cult classic—draws Meg to Bonny Island, Georgia, and an unusual woman said to be the inspiration for the book. At first island life seems idyllic, but as Meg starts to ask tough questions, disturbing revelations come to light…including some about her mother.

Soon Meg’s search leads her to question the facts of a decades-old murder. She’s warned to leave it alone, but as the lies pile up, Meg knows she’s getting close to finding a murderer. When her own life is threatened, Meg realizes the darkness found in her mother’s book is nothing compared to the chilling truth that lurks off the page.

It started off good. I was excited to have found a good book. But unfortunately, towards the end I couldn't wait for it to end. The main character got so annoying and dumb. The type of book where all would be resolved quicker if people just talked or listened. I had high hopes but it disappointed.

Such a good book!!! WHY has this not been turned into a tv series!!? I want to see it so bad! I enjoyed the narrator I thought she did a great job. I listen to a lot of audio books and I can always tell the ending but this book is full of twists and turns. Seriously so good! PLEASE make a tv series!

I wanted to like it but felt I got dumber for listening to it. Poor little rich girl and a bunch of useless plots. Made it to chapter 33 (painfully more than half way) and turned it off. Pointless and trying way too hard.

I could not make myself like Megan... I tried. She was a spoiled .. couldn’t stop and listen to anyone who was trying to help her. And so disrespectful of her mother. And the language was horrible.

I enjoyed the story, maybe a few places too drawn out, but I really liked the reader! I don’t always care for female readers, but she was excellent, I thought.
