About this audiobook

Control. Precision. Family. These are the principles that drive Silver Mercant. At a time when the fledgling Trinity Accord seeks to unite a divided world, with Silver playing a crucial role as director of a worldwide emergency response network, wildness and chaos are the last things she needs in her life. But that's exactly what Valentin Nikolaev, alpha of the StoneWater Bears, brings with him.

Valentin has never met a more fascinating woman. Though Silver is ruled by Silence-her mind clear of all emotion-Valentin senses a whisper of fire around her. That's what keeps him climbing apartment buildings to be near her. But when a shadow assassin almost succeeds in poisoning Silver, the stakes become deadly serious . . . and Silver finds herself in the heart of a powerful bear clan.

Her would-be assassin has no idea what their poison has unleashed . . .

This book is the first of a new trilogy that takes place after an alliance has been formed between the Psy, Changelings, and humans. It is currently a shaky alliance because the humans don't trust the Psy. They have years of memories of Psy abuse to get over. It also doesn't help because a secret group is determined to bring down the new, shaky alliance. Silver Mercant is in charge of a worldwide emergency response network and coordinates aide from all three groups. She is very busy because of both natural disasters and terroristic attacks. She is also both intrigued and bewildered by Valentin Nikolaev who is the alpha of the StoneWater bears and who is determined to court her.Luckily, he is present when an assassination attempt is made on Silver. His quick thinking lets her survive the attack. Until her assassin can be tracked down, she takes refuge with the StoneWater clan which Valentin considers a positive step in his courtship. But Silver is Silent and believes that Silence is the only thing keeping her from going insane. Any kind of relationship with Valentin threatens her life. Unfortunately, her shields are crumbling and she sees insanity approaching. I enjoyed this story. I liked that we had the viewpoint of the leader of the Human Alliance and the viewpoint of the terrorist who wants to bring it down along with Silver and Valentin's viewpoint. I loved the brief glimpses of some favorite characters from earlier books in the Psy-Changeling series. And I loved getting to know the bears. Wolves and cats are great, but ... bears! This book had great romance, some humor, and lots of intrigue.

This book is a great starting point for the new reader. The setting is new to the returning reader and deals with the bears of Moscow and minor character from the ongoing series. Silver has been poisoned and the only people with access to have done it looks like family. To keep her alive and maintain the charade that everything is fine it is passed off as building bridges with the new alliance. Tthis doesn’t always go to plan and there are attacks in Moscow from the new set of villains hoping to destroy the Psy and anything like an alliance between the three races.

There are some new people brought into the story and I’m sure we will see more of them and I really hope we see more of both Silver’s grandmother and brother.

This was the book that made our kitten very happy, because she had her human beside her for longer as I read "a few more pages" before getting up properly.Silver Mercant lives with absolute control over her life, after all her life depends on it. Valentin Nikolaev is a were-bear and determined to disrupt her regular life. Thankfully so when she keels over from poisoning he's on the scene and able to help ensure that things aren't as bad as they could be. Afterwards he brings her to the Bear home and they find out how much they mean to each other. The roadbumps are interesting and I liked how things were resolved.

I liked the Russian bear shapeshifter template a lot. Good-natured and not as prone to alpha-assholishness. And the kick-assery of the female protagonist, Silver Mercant, was also appreciated. (Although, again with the "she is about to die ...." -- I would prefer less of that in these books!)

First book of June and one I "won" from Penguin's First-to-Read program. It will be released later this month.Well, I gobbled this book up pretty darn quickly! First in the new Psi-Changling Trinity series, a spin-off of the original Psi-Changling series. Silver Mercant is assistant to Kaleb Krychek, reputed to be the most powerful and most dangerous man on the planet (and hero of my favorite Psi-Changling book to date, Heart of Obsidian). She's been pretty much in the background for much of the original series (the Silence arc). Now Silence has fallen, and Silver has taken up the reins of the newly formed worldwide emergency response network (EMNET) set up in the wake of the signing of the Trinity Accords. In this first novel in the spin-off series (the Trinity arc), Silver emerges as a powerful and surprisingly dangerous woman in her own right. I really enjoyed the romance between her and Valentin, and parts of the story had me laughing right out loud. Being an early review copy, there were a few grammatical errors and missteps in wording that I hope will be rooted out of the final published book, but even with those little problems, it is a really fun installment in the Psi-Changling universe with a delightfully different, sweet and amusing romance and great new (and some old) characters.
