About this audiobook

Math wiz Gemma Rowe has found the one problem her math can't solve: she's fallen for her female and very heterosexual best friend.

Gemma Rowe is a shy math nerd from Sydney who, despite having an affinity for probability and logic, only just worked out at twenty-eight that she's not actually straight. Not only is she not straight, but she's developed feelings for her best friend Sarah.

Sarah and Gemma go way back-since they met at university, they've been completely inseparable. They've traveled together, landed jobs at the same company, and shared each other's triumphs and sorrows. There was even that one memorable night when Sarah, completely drunk, told Gemma she couldn't live without her. To Gemma, romance seems like the natural progression.

There's just one teensy little problem with this whole equation: Sarah is straight.

Gemma knows the logical thing to do is to get over Sarah. She wants to be in her own happy relationship and not caught up on her straight best friend. But how is she supposed to get over Sarah when, despite all those advanced problem-solving skills, she can't even figure out who she's attracted to anymore?

Contains mature themes.

I found myself yelling at Gemma multiple times in this book. She’s insufferable and just makes the absolute worst decisions. Sarah Is a little annoying too. I found myself asking about halfway through why I was still listening. If I had been reading it I would have stopped but because I was just listening I think I just kept going. The only saving grace in this book happens in the third to last chapter. I was glad I was still listening at that point but almost not worth getting through the frustratingly awful rest of the plot first.

By far the most annoying protagonist in the history of fiction. I wanted to punch her throughout the book. She is the weakest, most frustrating and spineless character in any book ever. I do understand that the heroine cannot be without flaws but there’s too much build up about her weakness and the resolution or journey to her overcoming those flaws is not impactful.
The inner struggle before you come out has been painted in a realistic manner and does hit home but is overshadowed by how annoyingly ineffectual the main character is.
The only saving grace is the narrator of the audiobook. She is versatile and her “Natalie” voice is effective and brings out the nuances of the character very well.

For most of the book the main character was very unliveable only at chaper 22 did she show some redeeming qualities. There were parts of the book I enjoyed and that's why I listened to the whole thing but a lot of the time the story seemed dragged out and the main character's inner dialogue was painful to listen too.. maybe that was the point..
