      God wants us to do this, God wants us to do that. How do you know what God wants, seriously? This book has such a high rating and it is pretty good indeed. I wish the author would have taken responsibility for his thoughts (whatever may have created them) and stop saying what stuff he thinks God wants. I have absolutely nothing against religion and spirituality and I do care for God, but the references in this book are mind boggling and spoil a very good book.

      This book opened my eyes in a way I had not thought possible. The distinction between neglecting narcissist mothers and enmeshed, overly involved mothers was very insightful and the quotes of what the former will say were like a direct download of my mother's vocabulary.
      It is so easy for neglecting narcissist mothers to hide behind the misdeeds of an abusive father, and create for themselves a "victims out" whereby they simply ignore the plight of thier children, feel justified in using them as weapons in the war her marriage becomes, whilst also seeking sympathy from those same children and others. The section on how siblings are triangulated and assigned roles was also really helpful, and explains why some siblings will regurgitate the narrative the narcissistic mother has fed them (because it buys them acceptance) and join in persecuting and gaslighting the child assigned the scapegoat role. This ostracism is one of the most painful parts of having a narcissist mother for those of us designated that role and the author offers a lot of solace. An absolute must read.
