About this audiobook
Based on the practical experience of a master mediator and grounded in the latest findings in neuroscience, Douglas Noll offers his proven process—to empower you to successfully and efficiently de-escalate an angry person or volatile situation in 90 seconds or less—and how to apply this skill in all areas of life.
We live in a more socially polarized time nationally and globally than ever before, as arguments easily flare up, aggression and bullying rises, and lines are drawn over politics, religion, and ideology. De-Escalate provides a new set of social listening and communication skills that solve the problem of what to do with angry, emotional people.
The quick and effective techniques detailed in De-Escalate will help anyone dealing with this increase in anger from outside sources or anger in themselves. With simple, easy-to-understand steps, De-Escalate walks you through real-life examples and scenario-based conversations in order to create resolutions, build emotional intelligence, and cultivate empathy and healing. This book will teach the precise tools to master becoming a peacemaker, cultivating ways to co-exist and co-respect others in an increasingly hostile world.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good! Worth listening to, although the book focussed heavily on one particular technique: Affect Labelling. Essentially let the person know you're listening to them by reflecting back to them what they are most likely feeling: "you are angry/upset/excited/nervous".
It seems to be a helpful technique, the author overuses it until the last chapter, which brought things together nicely. My tip would be to use this labelling technique only as much as it sounds natural. Otherwise you run the risk of sounding robotic in a normal conversation.
The book is well-structured and has a chapter dedicated to different types of situations: (children, work, spouse etc.) I would have found it helpful if there had been a chapter on situations where there's a risk of violence as well. Hopefully a future edition might include something like this.
Overall a good book, worth a listen! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Organized and easy to put to use with immediate positive results especially working with teenagers
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5De-Escalate is a simple and effective guide to help create more peaceful interactions in our lives. This book is supported by science and by personal success stories. I feel that everyone should read this book and practice the concepts in this book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Great content. The tone is annoying though. the author is bossy, wokeish (the woke movement, you know?) and to some extent a preacher ("convert yourself you sinner"). The performance a little boring.
