- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5All the Stone Barrington books I have read I have picked up from the library. Quick and Dirty started with the promise of a good story but about a 1/3 way through I got bored with the plot and sped read to the finish.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Everyone in this series is richer than God, more beautiful and sexy than anyone that Hollywood ever dreamed of...and always right. Just once I'd like to see one of the main characters have to go to the bank and beg and offer their first born to get a loan. I didn't particularly care for this one as I'm not really interested in the art world but I did rather enjoy watching Stone and the cops chasing after the fake Van Gogh that was always one step ahead of them throughout the entire book. It was a quick read and not a waste of time by any means.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed this book. The characters are familiar after 40 reads and the plot did not involve politics. Rather, the plot was about art theft and gangsters. There was sex, luxury and all the extras that one has come to expect in a Stone Barrington novel. But, the female love interest did not get killed nor dumped, as usual...strange? It's a quick, fun read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Stone Barrington gets himself caught up in the mystery of a stolen [and unknown] van Gogh painting when he begins keeping company with the widow of Mark Tillman, the owner of the missing painting. Arthur Steele seeks out Stone’s assistance: can he find the stolen painting before the insurance company has to pay the claim for it? And, perhaps more importantly, is the missing painting authentic or is it a fake? This forty-third outing for Stone Barrington and company has all familiar characters, plus a lovely new client and all the luxury, money, and sex readers have come to expect from a Stone Barrington tale. The twisting art forgery plot, with its unexpected final reveal, keeps the story moving along and the pages turning in this quick, fun read.Recommended.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Normal stone barring ton screws main girl character, who is rich widow, thinks husband murdered for a Van Gogh painting, painting eventually found through hands of different auction houses and mob.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5My favorite part of the book is when Stone realizes it has been right up under his nose the whole time.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Stone meets a widow who has had a valuable painting stolen from her home. Naturally, Stone and the woman, Morgan, have a ridiculously active sex life. Stuart Woods, you really need to make the sexual drive a bit more realistic.
I thought this book was one of the more dull and confusing Stone Barrington novels. The conclusion was unsatisfactory. The art heist was a bit far-fetched, and the "gut feeling" that Stone had about various characters and their innocence was also not believable.
Pretty weak novel in my opinion.
