About this audiobook

Lord Alaric Wilde, son of the Duke of Lindow, is the most celebrated man in England, revered for his dangerous adventures and rakish good looks. Arriving home from years abroad, he has no idea of his own celebrity until his boat is met by mobs of screaming ladies. Alaric escapes to his father’s castle, but just as he grasps that he’s not only famous but notorious, he encounters the very private, very witty, Miss Willa Ffynche.

Willa presents the façade of a serene young lady to the world. Her love of books and bawdy jokes is purely for the delight of her intimate friends. She wants nothing to do with a man whose private life is splashed over every newspaper.

Alaric has never met a woman he wanted for his own . . . until he meets Willa. He’s never lost a battle.

But a spirited woman like Willa isn’t going to make it easy. . . .

The first book in Eloisa James’s dazzling new series set in the Georgian period glows with her trademark wit and sexy charm—and introduces a large, eccentric family. Listeners will love the Wildes of Lindow Castle!

Eloisa James

Eloisa James is a USA Today and New York Times bestselling author and professor of English literature, who lives with her family in New York, but can sometimes be found in Paris or Italy. For some reason it took me a long time to finish this book. I actually started it and then read the other books on the Wilde series before I came back to it. No doubt, Eloisa is a great writer and Susan is a great performer. I just enjoyed the other books better

This is a witty charming story made less appealing by the Narrator’s breathy voice. Will read, not listen to, the remaining books in the series.

This was surprisingly a bit of a slower read than most romances, but I enjoyed it a lot. The cliffhanger at the end was maddening though, I can't wait too see what comes of that.

Susan Duerdan’s performance is riveting. Electrifying story as usual. I love the family setting. I love forward to meeting the rest of the Wilde’s.
Thanks so much for your heartwarming romance.

With Eloisa James the keys to my level of enjoyment are generally how much I like the two main characters, and how good the Shakespeare jokes are. I am happy to report that I very much liked the main characters here, especially Alaric who was kind of a 18th century boy-bander. Alaric traveled through Africa recounting his adventures to a rapt audience. With that spark already there, an anonymous party (yes you will find out that person's identity) writes a play recounting Alaric's adventures, and adding in a whole bunch of fictional daring-do and some romance. The play opens in London and is the scandalous hit of the season, turning him into an unintentional heartthrob pursued by women wherever he goes upon his return to England after many years away. Its a fun storyline! He soon becomes enchanted with Miss Willa Ffynche one of the shining stars of the season, but she has no interest in him. First, she wants a man she can manage. Second she does not want to live with notoriety herself, and third, she does not want a husband whom half the women of her acquaintance are trying to bed. There are some moments toward the beginning where Willa is downright rude to Alaric for no real reason, but for the most part I liked her -- she is funny, smart, and cagey. I also loved her dynamic with her delightful bestie and with her unique pets (whom you will also get to know.) There were some solid Shakespeare digs, but too few. I love when Shakespeare scholars talk smack about the Bard! Overall one of James' hits for me -- not perfect, but very very good.

3.5 stars rounded up. There are some small holes in the logic of this story, I wish someone had pointed them out so they could have just been resolved. And I dislike when the reason for not just starting a relationship already is kind of wobbly, and then pretty much dissolves entirely once they decide to do so anyway. Apparently the heroine excels at setting boundaries for his fans and people can move past his stardom after all! *skeptical look* And the superfan showed herself to be too unstable at the start for anyone to just agree to make her part of the houseparty, no matter the ulterior motives. But, for all that, I was entertained and still curious to see how things would play out, and generally enjoyed it anyway, so I'm rounding up.

Deeply amusing new series from Eloisa James -- I can't wait to see what's next for the Wilde family after this debut. Things I love about it: Willa and Lydia are intelligent, funny, women who are also good at the marriage mart. The improper behavior they indulge in is never thoughtlessly undertaken, and leaves a great deal in Willa's hands. I think this may be the only book I've ever read where a pet skunk is hugely important to the plot. All of those things read more true to the time period than most romance novels, and it's a really delightful romp.

This first book in the Wildes of Lindow Castle series by @eloisajamesbooks is a character fragrant clever candy confection and I inhaled every chapter to the last bite. Heroine and Hero and equally lovely and the hijinks are high while the drama is low, making this a perfect read for our pandemic times. Plus there's a pet skunk people! Read it and relish it's glory!

Wilde in Love by Eloise JamesHistorical romance. First of the Wildes of Lindow Castle series. Smart and passionate describes the heroine best. Also virginal and a bit snarky. The hero falls hard.Adorable if weird pets. Lots of secondary characters that you know will show in future books.Willa isn’t going to be taken in by a title, let alone one with rakish good looks. Until she is.I listened to an audio version narrated by Susan Duerden with a pleasing British accent.

    I loved this book.

A well-written story. No strange out of the blue plot twists. Likeable, no loveable characters.

I'm looking forward to meeting the Wildes again in the next novel.

WILDE IN LOVE is book one in Elosia James' new series, The Wildes of Lindow Castle, and what a start! As always Ms. James brings humor, romance, a bit of action and suspense but most of characters you'd love to know in real life. The story itself is delightful, it keeps you smiling, sighing, turning pages and at times laughing out loud. I read this book a while back and still laugh out loud when I think about moments within it. There are scenes you are going to adore and moments that will have you eager to keep reading until you realize the faster the read the quicker you'll be done and what a shame that will be. The setting is an additional asset to the story it adds a touch of well drama. I loved all the secondary characters, namely Alaric's siblings, but also the "pet" that Willa acquires. The whole story is a winner that will leave you eager for the next story and wondering why you have to wait! I highly recommend WILDE IN LOVE to all fans of great romances! You will find yourself Wildly IN LOVE with this story and the characters. I can't wait for story 2 to come out......but between now and then I do feel a reread coming on. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

This book was such a delight to read! I decided that I was going to have to read this book as soon as I got a really good look at it. The cover is great and the description is even better. When I noticed that this was the first book in a new series, I was even more excited. This book lived up to all of my expectations. I had such a good time reading it and honestly hated to put it down. The characters in this book were wonderful. Alaric is frustrated by all of the attention he is receiving. He is the kind of man that cares little of what other people think unless they are important to him. Willa knows what is expected of a proper lady and is not impressed by Alaric's fame in the least. These two fit together so well and the chemistry between them really helped to keep the pages turning. I liked these two characters on their own but they really seemed to come alive in the scenes that they shared with each other. There were a lot of secondary characters that played important roles in this story. I had a moment early in the book that I had to really concentrate to keep everyone straight but each character was so well developed that wasn't an issue for long at all. I am a huge animal lover so I am usually a fan of animals being a part of the story especially when they are important characters in the story. Sweetpea and Hannibal were such nice additions to this story. Who doesn't want an adorable pet skunk? This was a really well done romance. There is enough excitement to really keep things interesting especially as the book progressed. I found the story to have some more humorous moments and a few nail biting scenes. I loved how romantic the story really was with just enough steamy scenes to have a very nice balance.I would highly recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. This book has that happily ever after I was looking for and things wrap up nicely for Alaric and Willa. There is a bit of an open end for Alaric's brother, North, that has me really eager to get my hands on the next book in this series. I will definitely be reading more from Eloisa James in the future.I received an advance reader edition of this book from Avon Books via Edelweiss.

Lord Alaric Wilde, upon his return to England, is appalled to find that he has become a hero, pursued by women everywhere because of the books he wrote about his travels. Even worse, a hit play has been written purporting to be about his life. His fans are everywhere.Willa Ffynche attends the house party for the engagement of Alaric's brother. Alaric is fascinated by her for many reasons; Willa is beautiful, witty, and not interested in him or his fame at all. She values her privacy and doesn't approve of his notoriety, even though it's not his fault.I loved the way Willa and Alaric interact. Alaric falls in love right away, but it takes him a while to persuade Willa to feel the same. Still, they 'got' each other; in a world where they were supposed to behave a certain way, they get around those facades by having a different public and personal personality. They're both intelligent. I loved how Alaric brings out more of Willa's private side so she isn't nearly as proper as she acts. The writing is excellent, and the secondary characters engaging. This looks like a series that I am going to enjoy and I can't wait for North's book.

Duke's son Alaric Wilde has spent most of his adulthood exploring the far corners of the world and writing books--truthful, unsensationalized books--about his experiences. Now he has returned to England to find himself a sensation called Lord Wilde (an incorrect form of his name), based on his books and on a wildy popular play that purports to tell of his adventures in Africa. From the moment he appears at a house party at his family home, all of the women present mob him. All except Willa, who finds him physically attractive but hates the notoriety surrounding him.. As the days progress, Willa learns that Alaric is a much better person than Lord Wilde and begins to fall in love. But she could never tie her life to someone so in the public eye. Alaric himself is initially attracted to her because she does not pursue him, but comes to appreciate her as a person. How they sort all of this out makes for a satisfying read.A sexy pre-Regency with unexpected depth.
