The latest from Burdett. I had some trouble getting through this book. It became very talky about half-way through, and the plot sort of fizzled out on me.Still I enjoy the mood of the book and the humor.

I love John Burdett. He's one of the few authors I know who can really get inside another culture and explore both how its the same, and different, as my own. In this episode of the investigations of Sonchai Jitpleecheep (half American, half Thai detective in Bangkok), he veers into spooky territory. Trans-humans, Vietnamese / american "Apocalypse Now" camps in the Cambodian jungle, and of course a good mystery. Great fun.

I probably shouldn't have started with this book in the Sonchai Jitpleecheep series. But I was not aware of this being part of a series of books staring this Royal Thai Police Force detective. I'm both glad I read this book and not sure I'm glad I read this book! Will have to think about this for awhile to make up my mind.
