- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved the entire trilogy! I hope that Charlaine Harris revisits Midnight, Texas because there are still so many stories to tell about this community of fascinating characters. Highly recommended!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Lived this narrator, story, characters, especially Mr. Snuggly. Need more of this universe
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great series! I loved this book! Can't wait for more
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very likeable and humorous characters. I loved reading about this very small, odd town. Made me want to live there.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really don’t want this to be the end of story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very good book series. I would be interested to see more connections between Southern Vampire and Midnight Texas
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Storybook time for adults! Really enjoyed the reader as well.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5These books are so weirdly satisfying -- the writing is almost terse, it's so straightforward, but I love getting all the updates from this weird band of misfits and gradually unraveling all the little mysteries of the town.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I saw the TV series before reading the series so my experience of the story was slightly coloured by the TV show. People are committing suicide at the crossroads of Midnight and it's attracting attention so the people who live there and enjoy their peace want to retain it and want to ensure that their secrets remain as they are. But it's not going to be easy.An interesing end to the trilogy that left space for more if the author wanted. I did want more.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The last book in the Midnight series, this ties up the loose ends nicely, although I felt the big showdown falls back somewhat on a tired cliche. I felt Manfred was a little under-used, seeing as he’s been the main character from the start. Here, all the characters get their screen time, and it’s the characters that make the books entertaining. Now I’ve finished them, the series almost feels too short. Of course, Mr Snuggly (a talking cat) had to have the last word.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Its Getting Interesting Some Surprises and More info about Olivia revealed
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a great book - but definitely not a stand alone. Read them in order, or else this book is full of spoilers! I love these characters - and I love recognizing them from her other series. Midnight, Texas is a place where all of Ms. Harris' worlds collide. We have side characters from all her series showing up - and we get to know them a lot better. It is well written - there are times to laugh out loud and times to tear up. Highly recommended.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The third book gets to the heart of the matter about what makes Midnight weird. You also find out more about several of the longtime residents of the town. I don’t want to say much and give away the plot but the story starts with people coming to the center of town and killing themselves. Bobo and others are actively working to either prevent the killings so not to bring any more attention to their small corner of the world. The end of the story does wrap up several unknown things about people and why they are there in Midnight. Not sure if there will be more books or not in the series but if not this one gives good closure and doesn’t leave the reader desperately looking for more pages of text in the book.
Digital review copy provided by the publisher through NetGalley - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Wow, what a fun book. I loved all the characters. They were so unique. The story was great too. This is book 3 in the series, but the first book I have read. I was definitely able to follow everything and enjoy it. I do think it would have been better if I had read the other two first. I would have had more background on the characters, and there were occasional references to past events. All in all, I would definitely recommend this one.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Is this really only a trilogy?! :( I need more MIDNIGHT! #punkrocklibrarian
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5For a book, with a very laid back style, this book was incredibly exciting and hard to put down. Somethign is drawing random people to come to midnight and commit suicide and the residents of Midnight, most of whom have moved there to be escape from attention, need to fix it fast as a bigger evil builds. I love all the characters in this book and most have made an appearance or two in other Charlaine Harris series, it made me want to go and re-read them all just to catch that glimpse. Ms harris has this really laid back style of writing, with a dry humour that constantly catches you by surprise. I am kinda sad that this appears to be the last book in this particular series as it has been a fun series to read. I devoured this book and am happy to give it 5 stars
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I absolutely loved this trilogy. Highly recommended for any Charlaine Harris fan. In the last installment, strange suicides are happening right in the middle of Midnight and the residents are trying to figure out the meaning before it's too late. A lot happens in this book with more backstory of Olivia's past, Manfred gets a surprise and Fiji is finally happy. Great ending with the wrap up with all the characters. I'm glad she made it into a trilogy instead of continuing on and dragging it out (like the Sookie Stackhouse series).
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The eccentric, secretive residents of the remote village of Midnight, Texas, return, confronting a disturbance that is drawing people and inspiring them to commit suicide in the middle of the street. Now clearly established as being part of the Dookie Stackhouse universe, it's clear almost anything can happen. Smooth reading, good writing, great characters, still an excellent series. Highly recommended. Liked it even more than the True Blood series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nice end to the trilogy. Enjoyable, got to know lots more about the characters. But I want more!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nice ConclusionNight Shift is more of a story that goes with the flow, just like the other the books. It's not very fast paced but I don't always need fast, I like to go with the flow (of the story) myself sometimes. What makes this story so interesting for me is how similar the residence of Midnight are like a regular small town of non-magical creatures with how tight nit the folks tend to be. As well as how new comers can cause curiosity and distrust. I didn't expect to welcome any newcomers to Midnight in this last book and if I did I wouldn't have guess who it would be.I was happy to see how various residents were able to work out their differences and especially Figi and Olivia having some female bonding moments, even if it was over duplicitous planning.I'm not always a fan of long drawn out series, but I did wonder how would Ms. Harris conclude this series in just three books. I really enjoyed it and a part of me wishes there was at least one other book coming up. Now I'll just have to see how they handle the television series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I love this series. Charlaine Harris has brought back a cast of odd and intriguing characters for the third installment in the Midnight, Texas series. A number of weird suicides are occurring at the crossroads of the little town. No one knows what's going on but the town's vampire might have a clue. And it's not good. In fact, it could mean the end of the world. Listening to the story in audio format brings a little something extra to the magic as Susan Bennett once again knocks it out of the ballpark with her nearly flawless narration. I understand that this series is supposed to be a trilogy and that means I am done. I sure hope not. I really love the people of the town and there is so much more that I'd like to know about them.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Entertaining enough fluff; authorial skill shown wrapping up a three-part series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The citizens of Midnight, Texas, are a reclusive menagerie of close-knit friends, including a energy-stealing vampire, a virgin witch, a female assassin, fallen angels and shape-shifters. In this third and latest novel in the series, Midnight has seen a sudden and unusual uptick in suicides. Entranced citizens from surrounding communities and local fauna are traveling to Midnight's crossroads where they take their lives. The vampire Lemuel and pleasantly plump witch Figi try to discover the source of this compulsion because more citizens die and attention are drawn to the town.I have enjoyed reading about life in Midnight, Texas. Each novel has focused on one of the town's oddball characters. Filming of this series is currently underway for a NBC fall 2016-2017 series so I'm glad I have already read the published series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent installment in the Midnight, TX series. I like the complexity of how all the citizens of the town are woven together and how they are changing over time. They're interesting characters and the story is fresh to me. It's also fun to see how this book fits into the world of the Sookie Stackhouse books. Also nice when a character from one of those books crosses over into these.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Night Shift by Charlaine Harris
Something is wrong in Midnight, Texas. Not the usual things, the pale man who only comes out at night, the famous psychic, the Rev, who only dresses in black and has an animal cemetery at his church. Something bad is happening and no one can seem to stop it. People are showing up at the crossroads and committing suicide. If the group of people who have become a family to each other don't stop them, the world will have something to worry about too.
Charlaine Harris's latest book about the town of Midnight is about danger, mystery, and family. Fiji, the resident witch, is not very happy to find her sister on her doorstep, Kiki (short for Waikiki, their parents having a thing for tropical paradise) has left her husband and rather than go home to stay with their mother, has decided to inflict her annoying self on Fiji. Fiji's great-aunt Mildred had left her the house her shop was in and Kiki had always been jealous. In fact, Kiki always wanted what Fiji had, and since arriving in town was sniffing around all the eligible males in sight.
In the meantime, Olivia was worried her father had finally found her. She suspected Teacher, the local handyman, and would be taking steps to confirm her suspicions. It's just that they needed to pull together as a town and figure out why everyone was literally dying to be there at the crossroads in the middle of Nowhere, Texas. In my last review for this series, I suspected there would be a greater role for Teacher and Madonna Reed. I wasn't wrong.
I loved this latest novel by Charlaine Harris, who isn't having a problem moving on from the Sookie Stackhouse books. Some authors never rise above their first great triumphs, but Ms. Harris is doing just fine, thank you very much. There is talk of a TV movie for this series also.
I received an ebook from Ace/Roc for my unbiased review. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The last book in the Midnight, Texas, trilogy is a real show stopper. Big things have been building up in this teeny-tiny town. Now something is calling people to the crossroads stoplight and making the commit suicide. It's just a good thing that everyone who lives in town is a supernatural being (almost every one). One resident in particular with have a major role in saving the town, with a little help from the rest. As with the previous books, we get an even deeper look into the residents of Midnight. We especially learn much more about Lemuel's history, which I had been very curious about previously and was so happy that mystery was revealed. We get to meet some family members of the citizens also, plus clear up some things I've been wondering about throughout the series. I was a bit disappointed with the big finale. There was kind of a let down after that. Maybe that was intentional, to leave the reader in a place to feel like the series was indeed finished. And if you're an avid reader, you know that feeling of finishing up a series--ugh! But overall this was another great addition to the Midnight, Texas, series. I really enjoyed the entire thing. It was full of fun, mystery, humor, action, adventure, friendship and the author's creativity. Hey, it made me want to move to Midnight, Texas, so it really must have gotten into my blood!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I want to thank Berkeley Publishing for an advanced copy of this title. The Midnight Series by Charlaine Harris is responsible for my poor work performance last Friday. I stayed up all night reading.Of all of Charlaine Harris's works, this series is by far my favorite, and has a uniquely different writing style from her other novels. She does a fantastic job with compact world building. She magically sets the reader down in the middle of the street in the tiny town of Midnight. This series focuses on character development and the the relationship the characters have with each other and with the town itself. There is almost a quaint and cozy feel to these books, even though the content is mature and engaging.A great novel from a talented author with many faces.Well done.
