Reviews for The Sea Peoples

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Prince John is captive in an alternate-Earth; Pip & friends travel through the dark lands to rescue him; Orlaith & Reiko rescue Hawai'I from an attack by the Korean evil. This is the first of the series that is firmly grounded in the mystical with a tortured reality twisting perceptions beyond bearing (MY bearing). The fight scenes are still good, but the dystopic evil world-lines are more boring than disturbing. Actually, I found them unsatisfying in their distortions in that they were too bizarre and unconnected for me to accept them. This is the weakest episode of the bunch. The captiviity and the people and the worlds and the action were too disconnected to each other, and too easily brushed aside, to allow me any chance of suspending my disbelief.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I still like this series but this latest installment spent too much time in the alternative worlds. At first I liked the novelty of it, but then it became too much work to follow the different characters’ manifestations into others. Stirling shows his creativity scales by taking his storyline across the Pacific. Looking forward to the next in the series, though it looks like he’s concentrating now on a new project.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5What I like most about the Emberverse is decidedly lacking in this volume. A few flashes of Hawai'i are not up to the usual tour we get of the post-change landscape. Most of the action drags through the mind of the mad power all tainted with The King in Yellow, and yellow is my least favorite primary. I have had enough tributes to early 20th cent. horror and all of them were better than this. Nothing much happens until the last couple of chapters and the resolutions are scant even for this series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good entry in this excellent series. More fantasy than I prefer as this epic begins to skew in that direction. However, the major characters and the general storyline are strong enough to keep me coming back.
